Hi there I haven't a clue how much it would cost to install an electric shower in a bathroom - I have been quoted £300 - £350 - does this sound ok? This includes the cost of the shower - a Mira or Triton - no idea which model - I am in Central Scotland - any advice appreciated

Hi: is this a replacement or a new install? Make sure you nail down the exact model....some Miras cost in excess of £300 nd others around £100. Baldelectrician who posts on here could give a good idea of costs for your part of the UK.

Again.. Replacement of existing (using existing plumbing and electrics) or brand new with new pipe runs and cabling?0

Thanks for responding. It is for a new installation so new cabling etc.0

New install with new plumbing and electrics, £300 to £350 sounds pretty good to me, but as others have said you need to pin down details of the shower though.
We have a Mira sport in ours and we are happy with it.0 -
When you consider that the mains will be coming from your fusebox via an isolating 35amp switch, or similar, and water pipes from a convienent sourse, the price quoted seems to be a very fair one to me.
We had our shower re-located and the electrics cost was over £100 just for the labour alone.

Without seeing the job it's very difficult to say, as you can appreciate, but when you consider it includes the materials as well I would say it sounds very cheap. BUT, as has already been said, check which make/model of shower is being supplied. Personally I prefer to fit Mira. However, even with a cheap shower, 10mm cable, a fused RCD unit if your fuse box isn't already RCD protected, pipe, connections, 50Amp isolator plus bits & pieces plus labour plus travel. . . . . Does seem VERY cheap. Was he recommended to you by a trusted friend/colleague?0

Hi there thanks for replies - the electrician was recommended to me. I have to get a new distribution board (is that the right word) as I have a really old one with no slot for shower and he is charging £250 for that. So from your replies sounds like he is charging a very fair price0

The mathmatics certainly do not add up to my way of thinking.
Ask your electrician for a complete breakdown of his quotation then you can see whats included, and it will give you peace of mind.
It is always a good policy to get more than one quotation for any job undertaken by outside contractors, I usually like to get three and then compare quotes.

Hi Bob how do you mean it doesn't add up - too cheap or too expensive?0
-
Hi bluecelticgirl (love your handle but a bit of a strange mix lol, i am from Glasgow)
The maths = £250 for new board
shower + installation and cable and switching etc is only costing £100
material alone will be over that!0
