Thanks for all advice everyone, I have done a system restore which seemed to work, well I thought it had!! just plugged my iphone in to download some piccys and it is not being recognised, got message to say drivers for iphone not installed, it gave me an option to reinstall iphone drivers but has come up as not installed sucessfully, not a bloody clue what he has done!!!
How far back did you go with System Restore, and was that date before you set up the iphone? How do I add a signature?0 -

Try doing a repair install on itunes (from Control Panel > Programs and Features.)
Considering you don't know exactly what has been deleted, the ultimate fix for the original problem would be to back up all data and do a factory restore on the computer, but this would mean any programs etc you've installed or updated since the day you bought it would need to be done again. How do I add a signature?0 -

I really dont want to do a factory restore although I am thinking it may be my only choice if I dont get it sorted, would I lose everything on there ie pictures, music etc? I will try doing a repair on itunes like you say and see what happens.0 -
just tried to do repair for itunes, it came up that mtb usb device failed?? when i have gone into devices it has a yellow triangle and exclamation mark over the iphone device but nothing on the usb mobile device0

I wouldn't go back to factory settings just yet.
It sounds like he has deleted programs rather than uninstalling them. Depending on how he has done it he will have left the system files and registry in a mess.
I do not use itunes, but it's free isn't it? Download the latest version, uninstal the one on your machine, reboot, and then load the latest one.
I suggest downloading Ccleaner and running the registry check. Accept any deletions it recommends, most will be for broken links.0 -

Right click on the iphone device and use the option to update drivers (sorry don't remember exact wording and using MacBook right now so can't check.) If that fails try deleting the device then scanning for hardware changes which should add it back. How do I add a signature?0 -

Before doing a factory restore you should backup your data (documents, pictures, music etc.) to DVD or an external device (USB hard drive, USB stick (if there's not too much)). If you have a laptop connected to the same network you could also copy the data to it. As mentioned above, following the restore you would need to reinstall any programs etc that you've added since you bought the computer. You would also have to use Windows Update to bring Windows 7 up-to-date (Windows Update should run automatically and prompt you to install the updates it offers you, so it's really just the time it takes)
Don't forget to also get/install Anti-virus software (if the machine came pre-installed with Norton or McAfee, I'd recommend uninstalling them immediately and replacing with either Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials, both of which are free.)How do I add a signature?0
