Not sure if this is just me but...

DS1 has informed me that it is their school prom on Thurs (loads of notice as usual) and tickets are £32:eek:. He is also saying he wants me to pay for the hire of a dinner suit for the event, I am saying no. He has several perfectly good suits, one of which was bought for him only 2 months ago. The reason for this is that he had a prom last year Y11, where I went the whole hog, hired the suit, bought the bow tie and wing collar shirt etc, this was the end on Y11. He will be having a Y13 celebration (prom/party etc) to mark the end of sixth form/school. I just don't get why there is a Y12 prom, don't mind him going but have refused to hire the suit.

Am I being an awful mum:o:o

no you are not, its ridiculous that the school expects parents to pay out for the expense of a formal event 3 years running, makes it seem a lot less special if they are holding proms at any time not just for occasions such as finishing school altogether

:eek:They are having them at y6 now :eek:

Like you said it is getting ridiculous and thats exactly what I thought about the Y12 Prom, I don't get it.

Yes year 6:eek: It has been stressed it is formal tuxedo/dinner jackets for the boys at 11:eek: Glad it's my DS the girls are spending a fortune demanding hair, make up and cocktail dresses. Why can't it just be an end of year/leaving disco?
The pressure put on parents to find this money is terrible. My daughter has earned a reward trip at school this year it's only costing me £40:mad:

me thinks Mse Rose is fishing for info for Mse Marty's next talk/tv/radio show where he will tell the nation about it and make 1p/4p/6p/10p items obslete

I have not done very well on my whoopsie shopping in SH/FW in the last 3 weeks. There were hordes of people in my locals at whoopsie time. My freezer is almost empty. :(

I think its getting a bit out of hand, the pressure on parents because they won't want their son or daughter to feel left out is huge as these cost spiral. I know DS was talking about the amount the girls spend:eek::eek:
