Hello

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I have an iPhone and I recently saw advertised two games in the GTA series on the app store at 69p. A number of friends downloaded the game and recommended it. I decided I'd buy one as I didn't mind paying 69p.
However apple took £6.99 from my account causing me to go into an unauthorised overdraft as I hadn't anticipated the larger amount.
I asked them to refund the amount and also to cover my bank charges as this is not my fault but they are refusing the latter.
They have said they are allowed to change the price of the apps at anytime, which I don't disagree with but to charge a customer a different amount then advertised and then expect them to foot the bill for their mistake seems out of line. Just to reiterate I'd clicked the buy button when it showed at 69p a friend bought minutes before me and was charged 69p.
I was hoping somebody could point me in the direction or tell me who I can speak to so I can take this further.
Although its only £15 for the charges it is the principle of the matter and I'm really angry with them about this.

Thanks for any help

So how much is it showing at now? If someone was to purchase?
Perhaps thegoodman will be able to explain why as he is the unofficial apple spokesperson and it is impossible for anything to be erroneous if it regards apple and their products or services.

which GTA are you referring to?
I can see Grand Theft Auto at £6.99 and the cheats are 69p, could it be a customer error?
  • The price is now showing at £6.99 the app I downloaded was the full game which if you do a google search it will pull up sites like this telling consumers about the reduction in price for a short period of time. I purchased the app in that period however from when I clicked 'buy' in the store and to when I was charged to my debit card the price increased and I was charged the higher amount despite my purchase history showing I purchased the app during the reduced price period.
Believe me it was no customer error as I'm very careful with what I select.

Looks like you may have a battle on your hands then, of which the time to win maybe more than the time it takes to earn £21 or thereabouts, I wouldn't give my DC or CC via itunes as it as been hacked in the past, I only use a voucher for purchases. Looks like you have missed the purchase window (could it be to do with a time difference?) Looks like you may have to just put it down to experience :(
  • Thanks for your comments but I won't let it drop. I'm quite stubborn and I will email them continuously until I get a satisfactory response. I purchased on the 27th may the date it was due to end was 28th may. I doubt I've missed the window considering America are behind anyways not in front.

    Thanks though.

Good luck I know itunes likes to pride itself on honesty and integrity (Lord do we know from the apple vs android debates) , pity you never checked the deduction immediately as you could have had a refund before install.

I have noticed apps advertised as free in the past when I'm using one of those free app apps....but when I get to the App Store they're not free.

Good advice above - don't use a DC or CC, rather a voucher.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

I have witnessed increases to product apps that have had promtional pricing, but in each case the store has been correct, as he price confirmed on the last page when you select BUY is the price charged, not any that are shown on the preceding page(s).

If GTA had a time limited promotional price of 69p, you are at risk of a price differential when the price discount ends. Agreed, this isn't shown as a countdown but is usually at midnight Pacific Time however the price shown on the button when you press is confirmed on the next screen which locks in the price to be billed, it cannot change after this so you may well have overlooked, but accepted the 6.99 price change.

You find this in apps that are free for a day. You need to select, verify and hen confirm. The price you confirm is the price you pay it does not change afterwards (the time of purchase is provided).

What you outline is fraudulent and I do not see the doing this. As for trying to get compensation, if that close to your limit (£6) it was an accident waiting to happen anyway. They would have no obligation to you in his regard.
