Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 7th June. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Wet & windy here today, I do feel for all those people trying to keep children occupied during half term when the weather is this bad.
Plans for today include sorting out a huge box of paperwork & listing some more stuff on Ebay & Amazon & then some knitting.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

    morning,

been up since four with bad head and feeling sick. slowly getting better so have washed the kitchen floor - an impossible job in half term. now sitting her flicking through recipie folder and decided i fancy a fruit cake. will have to go get some eggs but need some other bits anyway. raining and grey here today. got dd1 and bf coming for roast dinner today. were a bit out of sync here this week as kids are off and so am i and dh so just thought i would do a roast as its one of the cheaper meals to do when im clever with the left overs. today will mostly consist of chilling out and ironing. yesterday scrubbed the fridge from top to bottom. usually it gets a wipe but you can only wipe it so many times before it has to all come apart and be scrubbed in hot water. dd2 helped with this as it takes forever.
hoping you all have a good day.
not good with names but been thinking all night of the lady/man who has a 6 yr old boy who had a cardiac arrest. my little boy is 7 and in perfect health and every time i looked at him yesterday i thought of you. thank god for what we have. you will definatly continue to be in my thoughts and this is such an lovely place to be. such friendly people always with good words to say. so any support you need we will all be here for you with words of encouragement. sorry for being rubbish with names !!!
    have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

Grey and dull here again, looks like more rain, hopefully the hosepipe ban will be lifted though.

Off to work today, but have the afternoon off, so will nip in and see my dad on the way home, then have the rest of the afternoon to myself :D

DD arrived home from her mates house after the 'party sleepover' yesterday, she had a bath and her dinner, and went to bed at 6.30 she is still there now :D she was to tired, dont think they got any sleep.

Not sure about dinner, will do and rummage in the freezer in a while, will get dd to hoover while I am at work, and will do some washing once I am back.

Rosyred, hope your ds is home safe now xx

And the poster with the poorly lad, (sorry no good with names), hope he gets better soon, how worrying for you all xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning Hester (and all).

How have the heavens opened! My washer and dryer will be going at full pelt this weekend. As i am pretty anal about costings my electricity usage is running at 15p an hour (i'm pretty sad like that :D).

Mainly vacuuming to do today and the kitchen floor but just a bit of faffing around here and there as well as preparing the tea for tonight which i think hubby will appreciate pork (I'll have lamb and no doubt youngest will have chicken).

Need to organise my weekend too. I think thats where my notebook comes in as i am a 'list' type of woman.

Jayne, i hope all went well when you handed in your resignation yesterday and i hope your son is ok.

Hugs all round (as well as wellies to go with the brollies i offered round yesterday).:)

  • Good morning all,
Very wet and windy here today. It looks and feels like a winters day!
Jaynebryan96, hugs to you all. It must be a worrying time for all of you. Massive hugs to you son. This is a such a good place for a chat and to get things off your chest.
Cheapskate, i hope you and hubby had a good anniversary.
Hester, i have been looking on your blog and seeing your lovely blankets you crochet. Are you self taught? Could you point me in the right direction as to how to teach myself please. I have been looking on websites but i just can't seem to grasp it :o. Thankyou in advance.
Wuvvies, hope your headache and feeling sick eases and that you feel better soon.
Am not going anywhere today. Going to tackle the ironing today. I want to get it all finished. Need to bake some bits for the cake tin.
Tea tonight is chicken, hm wedges and salad. The salad is looking pretty tired so don't think it will last past today.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning :hello:

I'm tiiirrrrredddddd :D At 6.30pm last night I tried to have a shower but the phone kept ringing, then miss tru came in from work and spent half an hour talking non-stop. At quarter to ten I finally had some peace but was too tired for a shower and hadn't eaten tea. So I slumped on the sofa and ate quarter of a tub of ice cream  :D

I've become a bit obsessed with the tidy shed. Every time someone goes in there I check it afterwards, they've usually put something back in the wrong place so I put it right :D

Mr tru found a bung for the barrel - it looks odd, a bright green plastic bung in an old wooden cider barrel, lol - so we've got loads of rainwater for the greenhouses.

My computer is dying. Each time I switch it on, it gives a different series of loud beeps. I've run all the usual spyware and anti-virus programs. I've looked up the beep pattern solutions and tried them all but now it's beeping patterns that don't have a solution. I've been trying to post on FB, each letter I type posts without me having pressed enter so I've had to delete it all. I'm going to try reinstalling Windows, hopefully it's a problem with the OS rather than the laptop itself.

Good Morning everyone well I was going to go to the shops tomorrow but as the weather is so vile I think I will go today and get it out of the way.I haven't been food shopping for around 10 days but haven't got a lot to buy as I am munching my way through the freezer if possible.

I had a lovely day yesterday with my DD she arrived bearing gifts of 6 fresh laid eggs that her friend gives her every week(straight from the chicken's rear end complete with the odd feather :):))and a big bag of assorted bags of crisps for me to give my little DGS (the ones her two don't eat as their not keen on the flavours )Plus she brought her staple gun with her and lined the toy box for me it is now being used as a box for keeping my wool in.The lining came from one of those quilted mattress covers that go under a sheet.Youngest DD gave it to me as she didn't use it (her lads have bunk beds) so I took the frill off and the quilted bit in the middle was great, and the box now looks brilliant
After lunch we had a long chat, and drank a pint of fresh coffee then we went for a drive down to Faversham to my favourite farm shop Macknades which smells divine, and sells food stuff from all over the world apart from fresh farm produce .I wanted to top my spices up and they sell them there in smaller packets that are great as the jars always seem to dry out a bit from the supermarkets. So I got some ground coriander, some tumeric, rosemary, basil leaves, some sesame seed and a large vanilla pod to go into my caster sugar jar.I also got some Wilkinsons strawberry conserve and some beautiful fresh carrots and a huge swede. She insisted on treating me bless her then we went into the little cafe there and had another large cup of coffee and some delicious fudge brownie cake with fresh cream cheese frosting which she also insisted on treating me too bless her.I was spoilt rotten and it was so nice just to be able to sit and have time to natter to her.She does a very busy job and it can be quite stressful so it was good to see her relax. When we came home the heavens opened and it was absolutely tipping down, but when we got home we sat and had another potful of tea and even more chat.To sit with he for almost 6 hours in one stretch was terrific as she rarely gets that amount of time without the phone going or someone wanting her to do something.
All in all it was a great day and I think we both got a lot out of it.
I did a wash load last night in the hope I may get it out and dried between the showers today. My son-in-law is working from home today so I have the day off to potter around, so I will get my shopping today and just chill out and maybe do some knitting this afternoon.
Hope everyone has a good day and I can't believe that another week has flown by.10 weeks tomorrow and we're off on our summer holidays Hope the weather brightens up by then as we're going to Sea Palling in Norfolk for a fortnight, its right on the coast so i'm hoping we can get some time on the beach in the sun.
Right time to get a wriggle on as I don't like the shops too crowded.
    Cheers everyone JackieO xxx

    Morning all,

We went to my daughter's 1st year 'graduation' this morning. She graduated top of her year with distinctions in all subjects. she goes to the equivalent of the old grammar schools in the uk so it is no mean feat! The syllabus reminds me of the old GCEs i took in the early 80s. Next year she starts her A'levels and she has pledged to start studying next week because she wants straight As --her dream is to go to Oxford(financially my nightmare!)

Anyway, not much on today because i have no lessons. İ will do some prep for tomorrow which is the last day of the year for the bulk of our students. We have had a good week with students enrolling for summer courses so the financial outlook isnt so bleak!

i am still spending on must have items i source through this site--i must stop!

İts hot here now but there is a gentle breeze to take the edge off it. it's about 31 but we are close to the seafront.

Have a lovely day and get well those that are under the weather.

Morning all, wild , wet and windy here today. Jack and I had a shortened walk as it was hard to walk against the wind. Have to get on with my reports today, would rather be doing other things but needs must. Will do a freezer dive later to find dinner. Hugs to all in need. Glad you had a good day with your DD JackieO and hope Tiredmum and Wuvvies feel better soon.
    Have a good day all.:)
