sent product back to vodafone but still been charged
Options
Last month vodafone called me up with a deal on an i-pad. As usual with these things I was caught off guard and agreed to take it.
I realised afterwards that although the ipad was free the data package they sold me cost £27pcm which was around £600 over the course of the 2 year contract I had to take out.
They told me there was a cooling off period and if I changed my mind I could send it back. The upshot was I did change my mind and did send it back still in the shrink wrap packaging and untouched.
My bill this month shows over £18 charges for the ipad for a part month payment of the contract. Is this correct? Can they charge me even though I sent it back well within their cooling off period?
I tried to phone tonight but they are closed but wanted to ensure I had all the relevant info before chasing this up tomorrow.

It's normal to be charged for any use in the cooling off period, usually at oput of bundle rates. However in your case if the ipad was sealed and the SIM not used then there should be no charges.0 -

Looks like a mess typical for Voda.0 -
I don't see how 7 days (or even 9) at £27 p.m. can cost £18.

We don't know all the details yet out of bundle is not the same as contract data. If you return a device in the 7 day DSR window you have to pay for any calls/texts and Data used.
Out of bundle data is charged at 25mb for 50p. So thats 4.5GB of data.
However if it's still sealed then it's irrlevent, it could also be they have part charged for the first month before the return was fully processed and it will be credit back later, after the return is processed.
The OP will probably get a rational explanation when they call.0 -
Yes - part-perid contract charges are based on the fact the ability to use the network was provided with the iPad. It is made clear that there are always pro rata charges for network service, AND any actual data/calls made.0

the 1st bill containing 1st month plus a few days line rental is issued within 48hours of the order being despatch regardless if you have returned it or not. the few days is an adjustment to the nearest bill date.
once the delivery has been scanned back into the warehouse it generates the closure of the account and the charges for line rental waived and final invoice sent.
hthdoes my bum look big in this sig?0 -
Hi ali-t,
Firstly, I am sorry to hear that weren't happy with the deal that you were offered on the iPad.
We would charge for the days the device was used for before returning it to us. I can appreciate in your case though, you didn't even open the iPad.
If you would like me to look into it for you, you can contact me via the address here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject.
Please could you also include a contact number and a link to your post.
Many thanks,
Heidi

Problem now solved (I hope!). I spoke to customer services who couldn't see the charges even though I had already paid them and the person I spoke to agreed to waive the charges and refund my account. time will tell but hopefully resolved.
Thanks to everyone for the input. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
