Absolutely. Madness.0 -
Skoda have better customer service than VW.
But as others have pointed out - go used - get something like a new style Fiat Panda but don't dismiss cars like the Ford Fiesta.0 -
I have a 61 plate from new polo blue-motion I have also had a golf a few years back, the polo has the same layout and feel as the golf without feeling small inside. I do some motorway driving and I get between 80to90mpg if I drive at 60mph. however on normal roads get between 55-70mpg but then I do live in Yorkshire where the hills are
. Look at mpg and is it zero tax also to consider how many miles will you be doing each year.

I think I have posted this link before, but its probably worth doing again. Have a look if you are interested in knowing what mpg other people are actually getting from cars your interested in

talking to a bloke had one of these on hire in some junta country, said it was the worst slowest car he had ever driven
The Fiat 1.2 engine is the Fire non interference engine and is quite punchy (especially in the Panda, granted the Punto is a bit heavier) and ultra reliable.
Having said that I'm never sure of Puntos and think the Panda is a better car all round.0 -
thank you for the helpful advice, there would be many reasons buying a newer car would be a way to cut costs, not least the possibility of incurring repair charges and the reliability of a newer car.0

The Up/Citygo/Mii is a small city car, so you might be better with the Polo if you want something a smidgeon bigger.
Like the Up, there are other VW variants on the Polo. The Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia have the same mechanicals, but you can often get more for your money because you're not paying for VW badge prestige.0 -
Isn't the VW and the Skoda virtually the same car anyway?0
-
The The Up/Citygo/Mii are all the same, except in the details looking at all the specs the Mii Sport looks the best all round integrated satnav is extra but it has 6 speakers, the Up has only 2 speakers but satnav included ... so its down to looks / dealers0
