Samsung washer problems

Hi,
I got a new Samsung washer for my mum on tuesday and initially it was quite loud, but is now fine except for the fact that the timed functions on it appear to be quite innacurate..... the countdown to the end of a cycle is innacurate as is the delay end function
It is sporadic so far as it does not happen every time
What are our rights? Comets's website seems to state that they only offer returns within 7 days if the product is unnopened.... I thought we had 28 days with things?
Anyway, Ive spoke to samsung and they are sending an engineer out which would appear to be pointless as the issue is sporadic.....
Can I demand an exchange or refund? We have only had the washer three days and Ive been trying to contact Samsung for three days, but they dont work hours that allow people who have jobs to contact them
I should add that they washer is extremely quiet now and washes the clothes really well.... however, the timer is part of the washer and is not always working correctly

What exactly is happening with the timer?
A lot of modern washing machines have sensors that will adjust the initial time stated to allow for different sized loads. My washer has a daily quick wash that should take 39 minutes from start to finish but if we wash heavy items such as jeans or duvets this adjusts and sometimes the whole thing takes closer to 50 minutes, it works the other way too and if we just put in a small tea towel wash or OHs white socks then the time is cut to around 25 minutes.
My mother has a completely different make to me and hers works the same as does the one we use in work.
It may be worth trying a few different loads to work out if this is all that is happening, it's just to allow for heavier loads to have more water added for the wash and rinse cycles and a longer spin to help dry them a bit more.0 -

Yup, this is exactly what happens with my LG.
OP, doesn't it say anywhere in the instructions that the 'time left' is only an indication depending on the load?
If this is all it is you'll probably be charged for the call out.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Hi, erm...
well there's a delay end function and when used it is out by a noticable amount... Also when using cycles it soemtimes almost freezes during the cycle as thugh it is not counting down......
The delay end function is in one hour intervals; it doesn't say anywhere that it is an estimated end time....
It does say in the manual that the was time is estimated, but it appears to be correct on some and not on others....
Also, when I spoke to comet, they told me I had to call the manufactuer and that they would probably carry ouyt a reset...
when the samsung agent said that they would send out an engineer, I queried this, but she fobbed me off.... I'd expect that if this is a known issue, she would have explained?
thanks for your replies; it's kind of you to take the time to respond0 -
Any other thoughts? Specifically with regards to my rights here? I don't want it repaired... I want something that was not faulty from the start..
I read something about accepting the goods.... signing a dcelivery note does not count; you are allowed a reasonable time to asses before you accet and as I've been contacting them since day one, surely I haven't accepted the good so to speak?0 -

How much is a noticeable amount? 10 mins, 20 mins, 1hr?
TBH, I don't think there's anything wrong with your machine. If you put the time delay on it's never going to end exactly when you've programmed it to end because the programme will be constantly adjusting throughout the cycle depending on the load type.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Estimates often are.
As others have said, it will vary depending on the load.
And as PeachyPrice says, the end time is not going to be accurate for the same reason.
What is the model number of the washing machine?0 -

You can reject faulty goods within 'reasonable' time. After this time has passed the retailer are entitled to repair.
If you purchased in store you do not have any statutory rights to return non-faulty goods.
So you need to determine whether it is in fact a fault or just how it works as discussed here.0 -
Thanks for all the posts.... erm the model number is WF0702WKE
As I understand it, the machine weighs the load and modifies the estimated time based on this; is this not how it works?
Also, I've been reading the consurmer rights' page and in one part it says that consumers should beware of stores passing you to the manufacturer as this is them dodging their obligation... this is exaclty what comet did when I rang them, hence I rang Samsung... should I ring comet up and insist that they deal with this?
thnaks again for all posts... I take your points, but if the machine weighs a load and adjusts times based on this, surely being out by upwards of ten minutes is not reasonable?
I'll have to check and take some photos of start and end times etc.... maybe I'm being over picky0 -
p.s. I should ad that the item was bought instore on a buy now pay later thing..... 9 months bnpl I believe.... I think I read that I may cancel the agreement within 14 days, is this right?0

From Samsung's website...Laundry : The time indication on the display is rising/falling during a wash
Samsung Washing Machines display a "time left to run" that can often appear to change either upwards or downwards by a number of minutes during the programme.
Don't be alarmed, our modern appliances are designed to re-calculate the time left to run periodically throughout the wash and rinse cycle. If your appliance deems that a longer length of wash or rinse time is required due to water pressure or incoming water temperature for example, it will do this on your behalf then alter the display to let you see the current situation.
As they say... "Don't be alarmed".0
