A minibus with 16 seats is not a car and isn't covered by a standard car licence (you need category D or D1 on your licence) so if the certificate says "any other car" it almost certainly won't be covered.

Check what the certificate and policy booklet say. IIRC my policy has a limit of 3.5T GVW.

In any case, DOC cover is only ever for third party cover. It would never cover damage to the minibus itself, so you may be better getting separate cover anyway, otherwise you could face a five-figure bill if it's written off by a driver who fails to stop, for example.

No you don't always. See post #8, but it's also not a car for insurance. The 3.5T GVW may cover most cars, but won't cover vans unless your policy has the right wording. Post #2

    Thanks for all your replies.

Just as an update, after ringing the insurance company it wasn't covered under the 'driving other cars' section, and they also wouldn't even allow a short-term cover to insure it for the one trip it was needed due to the nature of the vehicle.

Luckily we were able to make alternative plans to get us to where we needed to go in the end though :)

    Thanks again for you replies!
