Also, would I be right in assuming that you would rent yours out if you lived at his rather than sell it? as you say, you wouldn't gain anything by selling it.
It all seems rather complicated
It is all rather complicated, and yes they are a similar size, both 3 bedrooms with gardens.
We have sat down and talked about it, at the minute we are both looking for a job in the others area.
In a recession Jobs aren't that easy to come by, so it may be necessary that we continue live apart during the week, but we would make one house the base and it would therefore be home.
Tiddlywinks - I can see where you are coming from, and we are realistic in our expecations of marriage and have discussed other future events, and as a couple have been through some serious ups and downs, good times and bad times,a dn we are both confident that we can sort anything out together.
The practicle stuff isn't always definate either, for example although my job is more stable, I don't like it, and ideally want to retrain all together, and my fiance is very supportive of me doing this but fiancially it is not the right time to do this.
Property costs - we are keeping both properties, and we do not see that we have to make either a permanent home until any children we may have start school, and I honestly don't see us renting either of them out until that time either, as we both have strong ties in our home towns and would be using the other home regularly (although a lodger is a possibilty, rent a room, a monday - friday "tenent", holiday lets etc (and yes I am aware if the tax impications if it wasn't my permanent home), so that we still retain the ability to use it sometimes.0 -

I think that that's probably your answer for now then, until one of you manages to move jobs
