I was able to do a data recovery on it but the card did lost a large part of unused memory and some benign video footage. it is only readable to about 12Gb.0

Did you pay for it with credit card. Some cards (Amex for example) have an insurance policy and if the damage happens within 90 days of purchase then you may be covered on that?0

But youe wernt worse off because you still had all the other cover, you just didnt use it.Letsby_Avenue wrote: »I think that should have been diclosed before the policy was taken.
You are probably right, I dont think I have a case, but the fact remains, i should never be WORSE off by having inurance.
The fact the policy was sent after taking out is irrelevant you still had time to read and cancel if you wished to0 -

My Nikon holiday camera cost £90 8 years ago, I don't lose sleep about it. I look after it but the reality is that is perhaps now worth £20.0 -
We always take out travel insurance, but we do not take out the personal property section (luggage etc) because that is covered on our all risks extension of our household insurance with a single item limit of £1500.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Single item limits are extremely common in insurance contracts. I'm sorry you had to learn this the hard way.
The lesson is if you must take a valuable item away with you on hols and you want it insured make sure you buy the right insurance cover0 -

I have a better idea, the thread title should be changed to "Holiday Insurance for people who dont bother to read the original post before engaging their keyboards"Letsby_Avenue wrote: »The insurer also said that before they will pay the claim, I will have to get an estimate for the repairs to the camera, which I did. I got a bill for £186 and the prognosis was the camera is not repairable due to liquid ingestation inside the camera.
The insurer has now said they do not pay for the cost of getting the estimate. This now means I had to pay £186 to claim £150 from an insurance policy.
Thanks for pointing out there is no clause in the policy wording that requires the holder to pay the cost of the repair estimate. £186 back in my pocket.0
