thank you all for your input. They originally started at 8.30 and now it's 8am. I understand they have to finish it and the quicker the better but the volume from the radio is a joke. why should I have my 'space' invaded by this music - and I'm on nights!!! will need to have a word or 2 with them. thank again!!!0

11pm to 7am for households, but use of speakers in the street is prohibited from 9pm to 8am. Relevent legisaltion is here http://www.environmental-protection.org.uk/noise/environmental-noise/noise-pollution/0

Why do builders have to have radios blaring? Pig ignorant of them to subject others to their taste in music, particularly when they could use one of those stick-in-your-ear gadgets and bother no-one.
I have alway wondered about this.
What comes out the van first? Kettle? no. Tools? no. The sun paper? no.
The radio!
I hate this, blaring away not giving a toss about anyone else.
Rant over.0 -
Ask them (nicely) to turn the radio down. What have you got to lose?No free lunch, and no free laptop

It's not that simple
The noise would need monitoring, and then a decision made by the council as to whether it is an actual "nuisance" or not (which is different to it just being annoying), and then an abatement notice must be served. All this takes a lot of time and investigation ... and proof.0 -
It's not the radios that bother me, it's the foul language that they tend to use. They seem completely oblivious to anyone else in the surrounding area.0

It's still the law. The local council enforce it, and will come out to investigate.0 -

Oh I don't know about that. The builders I've observed at close quarter appear capable of multi-tasking when it comes to:
kettle, teabag, bacon roll, newspaper and a*se-scratching - all within the first few minutes of arrival on site.
That said, it seems to tire them out for the rest of day. Most (not all!) don't know what a full day's work is all about.
Generalising much? By observing at "close quarters", so you mean ones you've employed or ones neighbours have employed and have upset you in some way? Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0
