Keeping romance alive! Will you help?

Hello, thanks for stopping by. I am wondering if you can help I have a slight dilema I could do with some ideas about.

I'm on a very low budget right now, however I don't want that to stop me from livnig my life! I recently started a relationship and we are about a couple of hours apart which creates a budgeting challenge for me on public transport.

I'm looking for travel from leeds to lincoln (return) and the best fare so far I have found is a cheap advance £21 travelling on a weekend. I've looked at splitting it at Doncaster but that doesn't help.

I've also considered getting the megabus to sheffield and then taking the rest of the journey onwards, but that takes forever, and gettting to the bus station is tricky for me as I don't have a car.

Anyway just thought I would ask if anyone has other good ideas to help!
I'm sure I can't be the only one out there with these challenges so I'm hoping you can help! Please share your experience.

Only helpful comments please!:rotfl:

    Thanks for your help.

    1. Get him to come to you.
    2. Book your tickets in advance.
    3. Get a web cam.

  • What's the point in using enlarged fonts? And posting twice? To make sure others notice you?

If you'd read the OP, you'd have seen that the OP HAS looked at advanced tickets, so a third of your suggestion is moot.

OP, not a lot more options - can't expect to use the bus and have it take less time. £21 for the train is probably the best it gets.

Ok, thanks for the ideas, and Bravehearted for pointing things out. Moving isn't an option right now!

Yes, I agree we both take turns in travelling, I would rather not be too selfish and expect one person to do all the legwork, important to have some give and receive too!

A car share might be an idea, I'll consider that, thanks.

Any other ideas (not offensive of course) welcome!

OP, are you eligble for any railcard?
    Aged under 26 perhaps?
    Or a full time student?

If so get a 16-25 railcard and save a third of the ticket price.
So your £21 return trip drops to £14.
You only need to do four trips a year to start making a saving.
A yearly card costs £28, but a railcard valid for three years only costs £65.

    This.

And an online voucher takes that down to £25.

if you can book your tickets 3 months in advance you can do the journey by train at the weekend for £16 return (this is from trainline so it will probably be cheaper on the train provider's own website). A railcard (if you're eligible) will reduce this price even further.
