higher bids than expected...

I know this'll sound a bit silly, but I placed my first ever item on Ebay (a dress), that I thought was worth maybe £20 at the most, though I thought it'd prob go for £10... the starting price was £9.99 but bids have gone over £30 with a day to go.

I'm now really worried that whoever wins will be disappointed. The condition is really good, so I haven't lied or anything, and it's a standard size etc from a recognised store! It's just that I thought I'd be lucky to get £10- what happens if the winning bidder is disappointed or it doesn't fit etc? Would I have to give a refund? Or am I just being pessimistic!!!

  • If you have been totally accurate with your description...
And not 'forgotten' to mention anything...

Then I cant see why there should be any problems :j

  • Happened to me once so i mailed the winner to double check with them that they hadn't made a mistake. They were more than aware & happy with what they won. Ebay still amazes me!

totally normal... somethings I have listed have gone for a fraction of what I thought they were worth and then others that I was debating not listing at ALL have gone for 2, 3 or even 4 times as much... I figure it pretty much evens out overall :) Some designer items fetch silly money if you find them in charity shops they can be worth buying :) have a good snoop round ebay listings and "want it now" on ebay to see what people are willing to pay :)

  • Don't worry so much! EBay is full of surprises. As tine says, sometimes an item will sell for far more than you expect, other times far less. You win some, you lose some.
If you've described the item accurately then you'd be under no obligation to refund if the buyer changed their mind, but if you're worried about customers buying and then finding it doesn't fit and asking if you'll accept returns, you can add the measurements of the garment to the listing, but if you want to add to the description of an item with bids, you need to do so before the last 12 hours of the auction.

Repeat after me... someone's junk is another person's treasure. Who ever is winner will likely want it and won't be disappointed.

Really, there's no telling what an item will sell for once two people decide to bid it out in an auction duel. It might be a hard to find design or size? There's often no way to accurately predict what price an item will get as there are too many variables.

is it a certain make? My little sister got given a second hand flowery dress from auntie, she hated it and asked me to get rid! I put it on ebay and she got £20 - it was from river island! My little sis was so happy she could buy a few items in the new look sale!!

Sounds like it's a popular dress & people like it. I wouldn't worry about that at all. As above, if you have described it well, have a good pic and not omitted any obvious info, then great!

Normally most bids happen near the end of the auction, good luck & let us know the final price!!
