Incorrect reoccurring default on credit record RBS

Hello all

I would like some advice with regards to an incorrect reoccurring default on my credit file that dates back to June 2010. I have been in direct contact with RBS and the financial ombudsman for the past 8 months and I have been going through a process of having it removed and it keeps reappearing despite RBS' reassurances that it won't.

Financial ombudsman have been great but I don't believe that RBS appreciate the scale of the situation that this is putting me in and I need this to end. What can I do? I'm going round in circles with them.

When you say reoccurring, is the actual default date changing? Or is the account just being registered as still in default every month? This will occur until 6 years pass or the account is closed, though with the latter it will remain as a defaulted account t with the CRA until again six years pass from the default date originated on. Good luck with getting it remove either way :o

Hi thanks for your reply. The dates are not changing it always goes back to June 2010. RBS have stated that it has been put there in error and when they remove it, about 3 weeks later it reappears and they say this is a "system error" whatever that means.

Ok in this case as long as they have said it a default they have applied in error then they will have to remove it ( easier said than done!) but with the FOS helping and if it has been incorrectly applied it will hopefully be sorted soon rather than later. Other than that what you describe with the default appearing each month is normal when an account is classed as defaulted, the only time a 'D' marker will stop appearing month by month is when the 6 year timeframe ha elapsed from the default entry date. Which will obviously be in 2016 if you don't get it successfully removed. So once again good luck:o

If i was you i would also contact the CRA.

don't know the other help links.

tell them of the situation, maybe they can override RBS and change the info themselfs. if RBS agrees of course. and stop any future updates happening.

Thanks again! I appreciate your input. It's so frustrating that I can't just give them an ultimatum (they would have had me in court months ago if I had done something wrong to them!)

I hope that I don't have to wait 6 years, this isn't an option to me as far as I'm concerned. I hope they sort out their system error. The only good thing is that they have offered compensation for it happening

You might want to complain to the Information Commissioner, particularly as having admitted it is a systems fault they remain powerless to prevent it's recurrence

I will definitely look into this. I was aware of them but didn't know they can help with this sort of thing
