Hi guys,
Long time user of the website for a whole host of different reasons. Been reading all the threads about people ignoring and being successful with regards to parking tickets, but is it the same for a private car park? I live in a block of flats with a private car park with UKPC signs all over the place. I have the permit but just placed on the dashboard, never had a problem in the 6 months i've been here, but today after a bank holiday when poor mr.parking ticket man couldnt make any money, i found a ticket on my windscreen because my permit wasnt displayed clearly. it had unfortunately gotten slightly covered by the windscreen outline thing (sorry for poor terminology) i've checked their photos on their website and i know the logo on the permit is visible, which means he would have been able to clearly see it was a permit, it had just fell towards the windscreen. Is the "avoid the letters and they'll f*** off" rule the same for these kind of car parks as well as store car parks? i'm 99.9% sure im going to ignore all the stuff they send me anyway, so any confirmation would be brilliant

Umm its ONLY true for private car parks and private parking companies, ignore them. You must NOT ignore Council and Police tickets, they are legally enforceable.
But private can swivel..**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. If any Parking Pirates have a problem with my post then contact me for my solicitors address.*****0 -

UKPC have never done Court except when they got taken there by Trading Standards:

That's the sort of firm your managing agents have allowed in your car park, your land. We usually recommend that you COMPLAIN to the managing agent for allowing such a protection racket to take place - particularly if only residents can park there (gated or underground secure car park?).
It's just ripping off the residents, UKPC will only make money from residents unless you do actually have a major problem with rogue parkers naffing off into town?! If not, then WHY exactly are the protection racketeers there?! Get other residents asking the same questions if you can.
Bottom line? Check your lease (or if you are renting, check your landlord's lease if he/she will let you see it). See what is said about parking. If you are allowed the space as part of the property then anyone encroaching - say to put a piece of rubbish on your windscreen - would be trespassing (a criminal offence).
If you can, opt out of the stupid permit scheme = pointless moneymaking scam.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

it's a gated car park, and an outside company were bought in because people were complaining that residents were parking in whichever space they liked, even though the number of spaces far exceeds the number of residents. The car park is very close to the town centre so that is a possibility, although not too many would try it i wouldnt suspect as you need a code to get out, and ive never come across it myself. I have my rental contract so I will look over what it says, although as far as I'm aware rental or ownership of a property allows you one parking spot.
Thank you very much for this eye opening information though, I didn't know the rabbit hole went a little deeper than telling them to f*** off, and i will definitely be putting some posters around the exits etc0 -

Those stupid residents who thought that was worth complaining about should be careful what they wish for in future. They should have just dealt with any issues on a single basis with a note on a car or a friendly chat among yourselves.
But no, a complaint means a fox has been brought in to take charge of the hen coop. It will be residents who get the fake PCNs and many won't find out what you found out about ignoring the scammers...unless you want to spread the word among other residents of course! Posters sound a good idea for starters!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I will be getting something typed up at work tomorrow, because there have been a lot of people over the last few weeks with tickets on their cars.
I never understood the problem really, if someone parked in my space, I parked somewhere else. If there was a note on my window, I'd put it on the window of the car in my space. For the sake of a few meters, I suspect a few £100 has been given to these cowboys, and im too self-righteous for that!0 -
I don't know how many residents there are, but maybe a note to each. This is always the same, it is always residents who suffer when these parasites are brought in. With an enclosed space inaccessible to non-residents how could it have been any other way?0

Are there any signs there relating to clamping? Or is it just tickets?Je Suis Cecil.0

Apologies for the delay, tried putting a picture of the sign up, but phone wasnt having it.it says:
UKPC
no unauthorised parking
Terms of parking apply at all times etc etc
failure to comply..£90 parking charge reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days to vehicle's driver
Park within marked bays
Permit must be clearly displayed at all times
In event that parking charge remains unpaid, UKPC will contact DVLA for registered keepers details
Unpaid parking charges will be passed on to our debt recovery agent at which point an additional £60 will apply
then a number you can pay to, customer services, and a couple of logos"
Sorry I couldnt just put the picture in guys!
What grinds me even more though is there's a terms and conditions poster by the mailboxes of each block from the company that maintains the properties, and on that it doesnt say parking charge, it says penalty charge. Dishonesty methinks0 -
Take a photo of the terms and conditions poster, might come in handy, you never know.
However what is written on that sign is legally unenforceable, so I'd just ignore them, and any tickets you get. It won't end up in court, they'd lose very very badly, and they probably know it.
'Failure to comply....' they've let both barrels off into their foot there.Je Suis Cecil.0 -
Will do. It's the only thing from anyone but UKPC saying anything about the parking!0
