Template Letter Question

I have just filled out the template letter from thsi site, and I read that I need to send it to the lender, yet the template says send ot to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Which do I do, and if I have to send to the lender, do I delete the block from the template that says send to the Ombudsman and the address.

Thanks for your help
I am only trying to help :rolleyes:

    Its not necessary, just type a letter explaining why you feel it was mis-sold and send it to the firm first.

    I totally agree with Roonaldo. You should also complete the Financial Ombudsman Service PPI Consumer questionaire. If you dont complete this document, many lenders will say they want it competed and use it as a delaying tactic!

    Good luck

    Just to be clear;
    Send your completed Ombudsman Questionnaire to the lender to whom you are complaining .
    Not every Bank requires this, but many do and it saves time later if you have refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
    Keep copies of everything you send.

    You havent said what template and what for. This is the reclaim mis-sold insurance section. So, assuming it is some form of insurance, then you would send it to the seller of the insurance. That may or may not be a lender.

    Template letters generally have a lower success rate than personalised letters. Even the FOS say they prefer to read complaints in your own words. Whilst no-one has ever come out with a study as to why, it is probable that template letters are more likely to fail because they include reasons which are not applicable (not really a problem) or include reasons which are lies or easily proven to be wrong. The latter is important as many decisions end up being a balance of probability decision and these will often go with the most credible side. if your template has every reason under the sun and many of them can be shown to be incorrect or lies then you lose that credibility. Just as if the firm gave incorrect information and was found to be wrong, they would lose credibility too.

    Another reason can be that the complaints handler at the firm has probably seen hundreds, if not thousands of complaint letters. So, when another one comes in looking exactly the same as one they did before then they are likely to be more sceptical about it. They are less likely to be sympathetic to your situation and may actually view you as a try-it-on complaint. Human nature.

    Take the template as a basis to work on. Make sure it matches your circumstances and issues. Remember you are signing it. So, if you havent edited it to remove reasons and you leave in reasons that do not apply or are wrong then you are telling lies and potentially committing fraud. This is your complaint. So, make it such.
