If you use LinkedIn, Change your password- LinkedIn has been Hacked.

Options
Apparently LinkedIn has been hacked and they are investigating the issue (check the LinkedIn official Twitter account)

Shockingly, although passwords were encrypted, they weren't encrypted very well, meaning that they could be potentially very easy to crack.

My advice would be to change your LinkedIn password (if you are a member of course) ASAP.

For more info on this, see this article.

Couldn't give a stuff about my LinkedIn account. It's what happens when they combine one's name with one's password that one ought to be afraid of....

How many of u guys use the same password for everything?

Unfortunately, I think most people use the same password for everything. If your LinkedIn password gets snatched then they could potentially get access to your email and then reset all your applications passwords and get access to everything. Scary stuff.

I, personally, have a different password for everything and use Last Pass to manage my passwords. Works well for me.

Has anyone found out what LinkedIn is actually for yet?

For all the use it is to me they're welcome to my account.

Its for proving how much of a business socialite you are, the more connections you have no matter how obscure the better you are ;)

It isn't for everyone, but I find it very useful. Think of it as Facebook for business. Although Mark Zuckerberg wants us to share our entire lives publically on Facebook, I prefer to have a bit of seperation between personal and business, and LinkedIn provides that. It's an online CV and a way to connect with customers and other businesses. It's great. I just wish their security was better.

Sadly certain spammers etc haven't yet, last month a certain SEO from bristol came on and said how great the said company was for getting you up the ratings on google.
    I posted it as spam
She said along the lines of "What a rude website, this is not spam etc...I am out of here"
Stupid muppet put her homepage in her profile, which led to a company which led to her name and lo and behold on Linkedin she is there as "Managing Director at xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Bristol". Needless to say their SEO company isn't all it cracks up to, nor do they realise that it is not a good idea to misrepresent themselves as a "customer" of their own.
So the best use of Linkedin is like a DNA system for muppets who feel they are important but don't realise that it will catch them out sooner or later.

Essentially, I was blagged into joining Linkedin by professional contacts (initially in the USA).

Reluctantly I signed-in and the list of contacts grew and grew but, truly, I haven't once found a single useful lead from it, nor made any contacts and neither have any of the fellow Linkedin-ites I've asked about it.

In fact it slightly troubles me that what I have done is make public a fragment of a professional network I have painstakingly established over some years in my field. But for whose benefit?

Maybe it's of use if you're looking for a job. Beyond that I think it's even more of a bubble than Twitter.
