Moreover, the amount can't really be argued as there is no real evidence to the contrary. So an account with 50% of the received funds would do the same job.I fail to see what going to court would achieve. You handed the money over to be invested for your son; all you mother has to say is that she has done this, and provide some eveidence: case over, expenses on you.0 -
OK a pessimistic answer. Not saying it's 100% right but it's a view you need to consider:
You have absolutely no right to this information and any bank that gives it to you is potentially breaching the data protection act.
If she's honest your mother is holding the money in trust for your son. At present it's a matter for her alone. When your son is 18 it's a matter between them. You don't get a look in
If she's dishonest you are not going to get anywhere anyway.
Sorry you do not give (or lend) money to a relative that you expect to get back if the relationship/their situation sours0 -
Assuming that the money has not been misappropriated, one potentially legitimate reason for needing to know what happened to it is income tax. Any interest above £100 earned on money from a parent is taxable as if it were that parent's income. If Gran has deposited the money as if a gift from herself then HMRC are being deceived. If Gran has deposited it as a gift from Mum then Mum may need to know in order to declare it and ensure the correct tax is paid.0

Thanks for all the replies.
I used another phone to call my mother.Managed to get her and has admitted to spending all of the money. She has had lots of foreign holidays. A touch screen computer. furniture worth grand a half. House full of luxury items which I must have paid for. A hybrid car.She says they are cheap. I dont believe they are.
Agreed to pay 10 a week which im not accepting,I am not a free loan company.
Im going to have to buy a recorder for my phone and record her then take it from there. Take legal options.0
