Basically my son's nan was run over. Currently undergoing an operation involving broken ankle, hip, and skin grafts after she was trapped under the wheels of a commercial van after being hit in the road.
His family are looking at an injury claims for you type company - I know it's a bit early but .....
Anyway, my son's in a bit of shock as it's the first time anything like this has happened to him and I said I'd help out a bit - He lives with me but is at his Dad's fr the half term break. He's 17 now so not a complete child and I guess he's feeling helpless as everyone's at the hospital and he's looking after his half sister and step-brother. He asked me to look into solicitors etc as he doesn't want the family getting ripped off by ambulance chasers.
I just want to know if anyone living in the Hampshire region has any experience of solicitors there and can give any recommendations.
I'm aso NOT asking for comments along the lines of 'Onluy in for the money',; It was an accident How culd you even think about compensation!' or ' Compensation culture - tut tut tut' Although I fully expect that they will come anyway (where's that roll-eyes gone)
His gran has probably now lost most of her mobility for the foreseeable future, especially as she was getting on a bit anyway. Doddering across a crossing you don't expect to be knocked over and then trapped under a vans wheels, so any money coming in to make her days at home easier will be much needed

She may have some insurance cover on her home insurance. Also the CAB will be able to let you know of a local solicitor who can help. Most give the first 1/2 hour free.
It sounds terrible and I hope that she soon feels much better.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

When injuries are like this no one is going to be castigating.
What I dont understand is why you are calling her your sons nan,.
Do you actually mean your mother in law.
And why is her grandson taking on this responsibility, I would have thought her next of kin or at least a responsible adult family member should be sorting it out. Who ever does it must respect her wishes, she is the one who is injured and must follow her directions.
Hope she gets better soon, bless her but injuries like this are likely to lead to problems, arthritis etc in later life.
Look in the local Thompsons, most solicitors will give a half an hour free consultation.
Best wishes to her.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Just curious, but how old do you call 'getting on a bit' please.

Are criminal charges pending?
If so, she may be entitled to a payment from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
You could look for a solicitor who is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. They are accredited specialists.0

No - She's my sons grandma - Never married his dad

I think he just wants to do something useful and can see them going down the ambulance chaser route and knowing my feelings is trying to put across another alternative view

She already has major problems and only just last year had ops on her ankles

Only if it can be shown that the vehicle was used as a weapon...which is unlikley (though, i appreciate, possible)0
