Evans Cycles - Not so 'Easy Returns'

I purchased some items from the Evans Cycles website over the last few weeks, I deliberately over ordered on a few items as I wasn't sure what I needed / wanted / was going to use.

I mainly did this due to the 'Easy 28 day return policy' over and above the 7 days DSR. The policy simply states to return the items in a sale-able condition to any store (or by post) for a full refund.

This is what I did today, I took the items I didn't use back to an Evans Cycles shop only to be turned away, apparently if you pay on line using PayPal they can't process these in store anymore! Nowhere online does it state this, eventually after 40 minutes of calls & conversations the store took the items back and the head office refunded the items as a 'one off gesture of goodwill!' What is more annoying is that even on the email confirmation the returns policy states this can be done!

I only purchased the items like this due to their policy on returns. Just a word of warning for anyone else before they buy from this retailer.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

    Actually it does.

    PayPal

We accept PayPal as a payment type.

Purchases paid for using PayPal must be returned to the Returns Department, using the standard returns policy. We are unable to process PayPal refunds in store (with exception of Store Collect orders).

Maybe this warning should be considered a praise instead then ;)

You did far better that the store staff at finding it. And I certainly missed that one as I was only looking at the return policy.

I would still count it as a warning to others. Even if it's not to us Paypal.

However the problems continue, they have refunded the wrong transaction! Leaving me about £20 adrift even though the confirmation email is correct.

Everyone knows paypal can't be refunded in stores, it has to be online.

Maybe the only added it to their website as a result of their spat with Hippey, to prevent this from happening again?

Your a cheeky sort, you shouldve only ordered what you wanted, not with a mind to returning half the bloody stuff....

I think that is slightly unfair.

There are an awful lot of store which have this type of returns policy for people who might be repairing / replacing parts on cycles and might not use all of the bits required, or in this case I wasn't sure which tyre would work best on the bike as although you can see a tread pattern online you can feel it for a hard / soft compound and these larger tyres are not always in stock in the stores.

And strangely enough I have done this before at a different store where the computer systems seems to be linked and with a few taps on a keyboard it is all done.

My only point of highlighting this was a warning to others who, maybe like me, would use this method of payment and then return items that were unwanted or within the DSR period. And a quick google search did also show I wasn't alone in the ever changing policy of the company, well, I live and learn on this one.

The returns policy regarding paypal refunds is clearly stated on the form!

I recently purchased a helmet but it was far too big for me, sent it back on the wednesday and had the paypal refund notification at 11 the following morning.

I checked the policy before ordering as I knew there could be an issue with the sizing. This was about 3-4 weeks ago so this was in place then.

I don't know where the op is looking but the returns policy and form wasnt hard to find.
