    Because that would explain the 'massive' termination fee. And puzzled as to why one person needs 3 contract phones.

    This doesn't explain why they may need 3 contracts, but explains why they may want them.

    If you got "free" phones then most of the contract cost will effectively be repayment of the "loan" for the phones, not the airtime. So you won't get let off any more than you'd get let off a credit card bill.

    Very often it is not the case, especially for iPhones.

    Say, 24x£45.
    24x£21 is for the phone.
    24x£24 is for the airtime.

    Fairly close then! But it's hard to compare as SIM only contracts don't tend to lock you in for 24 months.
