Nice one, random old man and Santander

I was in Santander being sold a load of products I didn't want when a harangued looking woman with two young kids came charging in, she had withdrawn a load of cash from their cash machine outside then made the fatal mistake of leaving the money in the machine and had carried on with her shopping, probably distracted with her children who were busy running around.
Not only had a elderly gentleman seen the money sticking out and brought it into branch and refused to leave his name and number as he didn't want any reward, but the staff in Santander had got the account number from the card in the machine (a Nationwide account) and had already paid the money back in! I was so impressed. She went from almost having a breakdown in the branch (from what she was saying it was a large amount to pay a bill of some sort) to finding the money was already paid back into her current account. It's so nice when people are honest!! It made my day, and I should imagine hers too!

It's a lovely story.
On two occasions I found a bank card in a machine and someone's account book out on the pavement.
When I went out of my way to return them to branches of the respective banks - staff looked at me as if I were a potential bank robber.
With the bank book, I had to explain s-l-o-w-l-y to two different people that I had found a bank book belonging to one of their customers before they accepted that I was handing something in and I didn't want anything in return. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
When I was in primary school the mobile bank used to come around once a week so that we could deposit our savings/pocket money/wages for washing the car. My brother is four years younger than me and we used to have to supervise the cash deposits by younger siblings to show responsibility/take pressure of the teachers etc. Anyway my brother and his friend managed to swap bank books somehow (still can't figure out how) and I had to take my bro's mate's bank book back to school and the three of us had to do the whole swap over. I was 10 and my brothers friend had no older siblings so I had to swap bank books with a parent which I found to be quite odd but I have since learned that it removed the school from liability. This was twenty years ago!0

I found somebody's wallet in the loos at a sports centre when there was an event on.
It had his driving licence so I was able to find him and gave it back.
(He did check to see if all his cash was still there though...)0 -
I lost my wallet on a train, it fell out of my bag and I didn't check my seat when I stood up (what an idiot!) but it was found by of all people the manager of a major bank off Piccadilly in London. I went to pick it up and then had a half hour hard sell of their bank accounts!!!0

I passed a cash machine once in a busy city centre that still had the money sitting in the slot which someone obviously forgot to lift. It was a stand alone ATM not attached to a bank. I stood over the bank machine to make sure noone lifted the money as it was sucked back in after a certain time.
I only wish someone had did that for me the one and only time I forgot to lift my money.NO MORE HANDWASH GLITCHES PLEASE:D

Thanks, OP.
We hear so much about useless bank employees it's nice that when they do a good job that gets a mention, too.
And kudos to the 'random old man'.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I found a bank card in an ATM a while ago - it was at the 'do you need any other services' screen so i could have merrily nicked their money if i'd been so inclined, i pressed no, retrieved the card and took it inside to the branch attached. Cashier treated me like i was a big inconvenience, huffing and puffing, no thanks for handing it in or anything!
My dad found a wallet recently, brought it home, i looked up the guys address from his driving licence and got his phone number and my dad phoned to tell him he had his wallet. Guy came round the next day to pick up his wallet with a nice bottle of wine for my dad:beer:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
That was nice of him, if only everyone could be like that0

My mam once found a wallet that belonged to a policeman, he came round to collect it with a big bunch of flowers.0
