How long before no claims expires?
Hi Everyone,
It is a simple question, of types!
I gave up using a car about 4.5 years ago as the old car died and I use the train to get to work.
I am in a place now where I can get a little run about just so I am always reliant on other people.
However, whats the score with no claims ? How long before it expires ?

I was told it was 2 years but it could vary

How long does my No Claims Bonus last before it runs out?
If you are not currently insured, any No Claims Bonus earned under your last policy can usually be transferred, providing it expired within the last 2 years. The period of grace allowed may differ depending on insurer and policy type. Some insurers allow No Claims Bonus that is up to 3 years old with others it becomes invalid after 12 months. Some will decline to accept bonus altogether where there has been a break in cover.0 -
Usually 2 years0

Yes 2 years is norm I think 4.5 years is way off what you get NCD but no harm trying0
-
two, sometimes three years for standard NCB but a decent broker should be able to get you an discount to reflect your driving record0

Again I was told 2 years, but when I asked for a quote from my former insurer they said they would honour it (30 months).Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

If the NCB is substantial, then what stops you selecting a group A car at random off the street and insuring yourself for that until you get another car. You dont have to be the owner of a car to insure yourself for it...............**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. Well..... for starters, this waste of money could also have consequences:
1) fraud
2) the car you select may at some time in the future be involved in a third party claim when it is uninsured. But your insurance would be liable!0 -

hmm good point
Buy a scrapper then, insure it and scrap it. you dont have to cancel the insurance.
Its a questiosn of economics - i have something like 80% NCB, in pay about £200 a year insurance on a Renault Scenic, which is group 13. So without my NCB it would be about £1000. Must be cheaper to preserve that discount by paying £50 for a scrapper, insuring it, then scrapping it to get your money back. You could do that for 5 years and still break even on preserving your NCB, bearing in mind a Group 1 woudo be even cheaper (for me, anyway).
All you need is a group 1 scrapper ...................**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. If any Parking Pirates have a problem with my post then contact me for my solicitors address.*****0 -
Is this possible?
I have a punto with insurance that runs out in september with 7 yrs NCD which should be 8 years on completion.
Just bought a corsa with 1 years free insurance with 0 years NCD attached as silly to cancel above policy with 2 months to pay.
I plan to sell the punto In september and take the 8 years NCD leaving me with the 1 insurance with 0 yrs attached. When this ends in june can i re-new with whoever is the lowest premium using the 8 yrs NCD from the punto?0 -

That is a ludicrous suggestion. You are advocating taking out insurance on a car owned by someone else and the implications for that owner should it be flagged up that there is a second policy on the vehicle could be serious.
The suggestion to buy a car, insure it and then scrap it is also suspect. By scrapping the car you are relinquishing ownership of it so again you have the situation where you have a policy on a car you are no longer in possession of."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
