On that note, I went to Sainsburys at the weekend for a few bits and was very pleased with their self-service checkouts. They seem to be the only supermarkets whose machines done a) have the volume at a deafening level and/or b) have the bags half a mile away from the machine and/or c) don't forever beep at you0 -
I learned this lesson about 15 years ago, and when having found jewellery in sports centre changing rooms, or phones - I'll report the find to customer services, tell them I'm looking after said item, and leave them my contact number.
I still have a very nice white gold and sapphire ring found circa 1999 in a local sports centre, and a pair of silver celtic knot drop earrings (left in my handbag by a fellow netball player - I've asked around, but no one has claimed).
Must admit the last phone I found in the middle of our small village Tesco Express, I took it straight to the tills as it was likely the owner was still in the store. I was a bit slow there, as it was an identical model to my old one that fell down the loo, and I could have done with the battery out of it.:o
So upshot now is "Yes" report it - but take item with you and leave your contact details. It's amazing how some of the staff get a bit sniffy about this - wonder why???0
