King Charles Spaniel

Hi, I am not sure if this is correct but we are looking to give a home to a King Charles Spaniel around 5 to 6 years old. We have lost two in the past year due to the dreaded heart defect and our one remaining King Charles misses the others badly. We are trying to give him more and more TLC but he has never been without a dog companion.
We have applied to all the rescue centres that advertise on the web and the like.
It must be a King Charles though as the other dog only relates well to them. Just a thought and sorry if I have placed this post incorrectly as I am not sure Martins rules are with animals.

Regards

Badfinger

    Hi
Why dont you ask at the local vets to see if they know of any recue centres or with the king charles spaniel club. Often these are the first places breeders will turn to to rehome their pets. Also if you phonearound your local recue centres, mine is the rspca they have a list of organisations who specialise in certain types of dogs.

If it's a Cavalier King Charles (mine is :) ) let me know which part of the country you are in as I have several phone numbers of people you can contact and also have rescue home numbers as well.

    Thanks to all so far.

Lara, we live in the south but would willingly travel.

Jazzy was our little rescue and died in kennels whilst we were on holiday miles from anywhere in Spain, We cut short the holiday and returned now heartbroken.
He was the third one but now we have only one.

Mandymack, Thank you also and we have applied to 3 of them.

Keep up the community spirit all

    Regards

We got our puppy from the litter recommended by one of the ladies mentioned above. It was her dog that had fathered them. They were lovely and healthy looking with tails wagging and weeing everywhere! lol

Having had a Cavalier with epilepsy I wanted to ensure that there wasn't any of this in the breeding line. I was assured there wasn't.

Six months later......................................my Ruby coloured Cavalier had her first fit and has been on phenobarbitone for 2 yrs now. My vet said I should let the breeder know. The breeder didn't want to know, the above mentioned lady didn't want to know and the Kennel Club didn't want to know:mad: . Luckily for my dog she was in the right home because I recognised the symptons immediately and know how to deal with it. Also I have an excellent vet!

Can I also just say that a King Charles is different to a CAVALIER KC. The KC has what I call a squashed nose & is smaller and the Cavalier is bigger and prettier:):) (IMHO ;) but then I'm biased).

So I suppose I am saying be careful when buying one of her puppies:( but obviously the rescue dogs are different. We would have willingly given a home to a rescue but there weren't any around that we could find:(.

They are a wonderful, loving breed.
