Evans Halshaw

I contacted the internet sales team several times but I never got a reply. I then visited my local dealership and a salesman took my details and what I was looking for. He promised that he would call me back the next day but he didn't bother.
I had to find a car fast as my old one had been written off and the hire car was going back the next week so I went into the dealership again and spoke to a salesman but he was unable to find anything for me.
That evening, I found several suitable cars within my price range on the website. I repeatedly rang the salesman the next day and he eventually rang me back. All of the cars were misrepresented on the website, e.g. they were a lower spec, higher price, older, different engine and sometimes (where there was no photograph) a completely different make and model etc. Basically the website does a very good job of getting you interested but the car usually isn't available at the price on the page.
I eventually agreed on a car even though it was £400 more than the website stated. The salesman told me that I would have to pay a £200 deposit to secure the vehicle but this would be refunded if I chose not to buy (this was agreed over the phone so I have no proof of this
). I was also told that despite free insurance apparently being available on more than 25,000 cars, it didn't include this one.
I paid the deposit and they brought the vehicle to the local dealership. I wasn't that impressed and told them I didn't want it. I was told to speak to the salesman who had been dealing with it (he wasn't in that day) to arrange to get my deposit back.
I have tried repeatedly to speak to the salesman but he is never available and despite the number of messages I have left, he does not return my calls. I have spoken to his supervisor but still nothing has happened. I have written a letter to the dealer principal and still nothing has happened.
I think my next step will be my local trading standards and then my credit card company.
The moral of the story is: Don't even consider Evans Halshaw.
very interesting to see this company's name keep cropping up - we are in the process of buying a new car from them and it is due in three weeks time. Last week they phoned and demanded that they wanted full payment the next day and wanted to register the car by Friday of last week. This would mean that my OH lost the benefit of the 2 weeks free insurance she had been offered as the insurance began the moment it was registered (i.e. before she even got it!). I told them there was no way - we have already paid a deposit. That would mean they had our money plus the car. Obviously, they are trying it on to meet their end of month target and get the cash in before the end of September. One of their staff was downright rude when we refused to pay up. Last time I will ever use this dealer.0 -
Two of my friends bought from Evans Halshaw, and both had very bad aftersales , they had problems with there cars and it was very hard work getting sorted, i would'nt go near them.0

I must be honest, I have had no problems with Evans Halshaw at Citroen/Kia in Cardiff - when I got my car the salesman even hand delivered my tax disc to my house for me because their clerk had gone shopping instead of taxing cars.
That sounds like a problem to me.....did you take your car home with no tax on it then? So you drove a car illegally because their clerk went shopping...sounds like a big problem to me.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0 -
Shall I list my list of issues with Evans Halshaw in Walsall?
Nope, I'll just give the main one.
Paid for £20 of petrol with a used car. When I got the car the fuel indicator was almost on the empty mark. Went back inside to query it, and the sales rep was trying to pretend there really was £20 of petrol in there (well it's really £17 + VAT, it's a bit above empty...).
Eventually he agreed to refund the £20 but I haven't seen it yet (cheque in the post ... alledgedly...)
It was the fact that he didn't apologise and move on, he was actually trying to fob me off, so do they do that with everyone?Indecision is the key to flexibility

I got run over by a sales man on one of their sites0

I have bought two cars from Evans Halshaw - albeit 15 years apart and I've had no problems with them. The last one was found on the website. I guess its luck of the draw.0

Oh well, the cars aint bad, pretty strong0 -
After having a company car for 20+ years(I know... NOT the same one..lol) my new employers went down the car allowance route. So I had to buy a car and after looking everywhere I narrowed the choice down to either a Focus or an Astra. This was December 07.
Evans-Halshaw had several of each and I plumped for a Dec 56 Focus 1.6 Zetec. Delivery was £150 and the car was £7800. I couldnt get an equivelant for under £9000 anywhere. They delivered to my home when they said(well they were a bit late...15 minutes!!)Car was as advertised and you can see the registration on their website.
I was intending to replace it again this December as I dont want the mileage to get too high(job involves a lot of travelling both here and France/Belgium). Problem is I enjoy driving it. So I for one will look at their website again when I do eventually replace it, and I hope I am as lucky again.
And no I do not work for them0
