Vodafone wifi - huge bills!

After having spent years happily receiving unlimited broadband from TalkTalk, my university discovered I was dyspraxic and entitled to disabled student allowance. This covered a monthly internet allowance. Talktalk was line rental only with free broadband so DSA would not pay for that, I swapped to VODAFONE WIFI, to use my laptop for uni work and general browsing. It all went down hill from there!

My online order took ages to locate and my item had to be re ordered over the phone.
The phone sales team, made me believe they were doing me a better deal but when I looked at my internet order, I was just getting the exact same thing but much later than anticipated.

I was asked what I would be using my wifi for and the salesman promised it would be more than ample for me to have 2GB allowance.

The salesman also said signal would be good as we have full bars on our mobile phones.

Item arrived, set up was easy enough but I kept loosing internet signal, this was even witnessed by the trainer that came out to show me how to use my specialist dyspraxic equipment.

Continually loosing signal, and often going to the library to complete work, instead of using facilities in my own home.

Final straw came when I was £90.00 direct debit was taken instead of the usual (around £10.00)

I rang vodafone, the salesman said the box could be corrupt take it to store, I couldnt as I was in the middle of exam and assignment period. I asked the Earlt termination fee as it may end up cheaper than me getting charged £90.00 every month, cut my losses now - he said DONT DO THAT.

I dont download films or anything like that, I cant watch you tube clips or films or anything as the bandwidth is not good enough.

second month now and another £90 bill.

The manager at the Burnley Vodafone store, couldnt end my contract or take the item to be investigated. She showed me the signal strength in my area which correlated with the poor signal I had been getting, and agreed If I had been told 2GB would be enough it should be.

After emailing vodafone, they are claiming usage is definately from my device but they have not provided me with an itemised breakdown, and they say signal is strong in my area. £180.00 termination fee they want!

Im absolutely livid, I am a student and a parent and I cant afford this, nor do I have the time to keep sending emails just to get obstructive replys!

Id like to get out of my contract, without a fee, and will I get charged a lot to sign up again with someone else??

Im absolutely gutted, please any advice will be appreciated.:money:

    Why?
....and should sort the problem out
Using the cellular network to acess the interwebz is just plain barmy from a cost control POV and what Vodfone Wifi appears to do is just that.

    Cheers

Voice reception on your mobile does not mean that you will necessarily get a decent 3G signal, which is what you require for data services.
It's your job to check the signal at the property before you contract for the service.
2GB is a very small amount of data, OK for limited browsing and email, no good for streaming (iPlayer etc) or downloading. Why would you believe a salesman whose only concern is his commission?

    Hi Megamind,

It's disappointing to hear about your recent issues. I can certainly appreciate your concern with both the service you have received and the high bills.

So that I can take a look at this in more detail, can you send me an email here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject. If you can also include a contact number and a link to this thread, I will get in touch with you to help.

    Many thanks,

  • Heidi, I have responded, I look forward to your reply and I hope you can assist me in either making sure my bills for my monthly broadband do not go over the agreed amount, or ending my contract without the early termination fee, considering the huge amounts already paid by myself.

Thankyou for your assistance, I will post back on to here at a later date with the outcome.:money:
