    Yes - use Crucial as a reference.

    You can also buy from them if you like - they are reputable and have been around for years.

    (Alternatively you can be a cheapskate like me and wait for the one you want to come up on ebay at a good price.)

    Unless you are running a 64 bit version of Windows, then the OS will not recognise more than 3.5GB of RAM anyway.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    If you already have 2Gb then you will probably need to buy 2 * 2Gb sticks as Dell normally fill both slots.

    A 75% increase in capacity isn't to be sniffed at even if that is the case.

    The amount of the 4 GB you will see can vary from one machine to the next.


    The worst I have seen is my work Lenovo laptop which has 4 GB, but can only use 2.5 GB!
