entering USA on a visa - forms to complete?

Options
Bit of a random question -

Does anyone know if you have to complete any particular forms on the plane when entering the united states using a visa (like what we previously had to do with those green forms under the visa waiver program)?

Yes I think you do, with a customs declaration on it.

You will need to fill in an I-94 form.
This is a white form and is very similar to the green I-94W visa waiver form that was needed before the ESTA came into being.

You will also need to fill in a customs declaration.

Remember an ESTA is not a visa - if you have an ESTA then there's only the customs form to fill in. One per family
  • You will need to fill in an I-94 form.

That depends on a lot of things, like what visa hes travelling on, or even his nationality.
  • The I-94 form is used by anyone with a visa apart from people travelling in with the intention of taking up residence..

Exactly. I-94 is for visitors holding nonimmigrant visas. Unless you are psychic you cant make the assumption this person is not on a CR-1
Provided that you have a valid visa then nationallity doesn't come into whether you are required to complete the I-94.

For all we know he may be a canadian in transit flying to NY then onto Vancouver.

Whether you have a B2 (tourist), B1 (business) or going for study purposes (F or M visa), or any of the other classes of non immigrant visas, the only form required for entry is the I-94.

Well, as the OP stated that they previously had to fill out a Visa waiver form, the chances of them now having a CR-1 is unlikely, and even if this was the case, I think they may well have mentioned it.
For all we know he may be a canadian in transit flying to NY then onto Vancouver.
If the OP was Canadian, they wouldn't have needed to use the Visa waiver program, so this can't be the case.

So no UK citizen has ever married an american (and thats just one of the available visas)

Why would they mention it, chances are the OP is flying using the VWP anyways.
If the OP was Canadian, they wouldn't have needed to use the Visa waiver program, so this can't be the case.

So the thought of him being dual nationality, doing a reverse "conrad black", being Argentinian etc etc etc

You provided a general answer to a vague question, thats all.
You will need to fill in an I-94 form

    is not necessarily correct.

Thanks - looks like i'll need to ask for an I-94 then, and presumably everyone gets a customs form anyway.....
  • What visa have you got?

    I have an L1 visa.

As previously mentioned, I have to fill in an I-94 (white form) and customs declaration.

    No ESTA completion required.
