i dont know what you are trying to imply here but let me tell you when people buy cars they lose all reality of what their obligations are regarding insurance and tax
to be quite frank ive stopped helping these people who think a nice little copper wont book them because they only bought it an hour ago and will tax/insure it tomorrow
i will of course store their new car for collection until they are fully legal and do point out a new month is imminent but a large part of the population think you are going to knick their wheels swap the engine and basically do them over that you just let them get on with driving it home now,i always write on the invoice the time they take it so ive fulfilled my role of trying to do the right thing
basically a lot of people are their own worst enemies and im not prepared anymore to set the world to rights on explaining they are mad because it almost always goes to people who are la la la not listening and i know better0 -
If you purchased a car on 30th May and paid for 6 months road tax do you think the tax would run out at the end of October?
That would depend on when the tax was due to start from.
If you purchase the car and want to be legal on the road you need a tax disc for May, you may choose to be illegal for 1 day and tax from 1st June.
You may not be at liberty to choose, if you buy from a dealer they won't let you take it away till taxed, so you can either take it away in May or take it away in June, it's up to you..0 -
But on a technicality, the tax doesn't start until the 1 June, so the dealer can't let you drive home on the 31st May.
When I worked for a car dealer, we did this all the time.
We used trade plates to drive the vehicle to the customers home a day or two before the start of the month. If the customer drove before the start of the month, then it was up to them."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

But you wouldn't let them drive it home on tax you'd put on for next month.0 -

Spoke to the garage first thing, and they agree with me and you all here, so I have to take the car back to show them, and they'll refund me some money (rather than change the tax disc).
