Car insurance -covered or not !
Brought secondhand from Indy garage - px my old one in.Changed my insurance to new car.
New car engine light came on after 1 day , took car back, garage arranged for me to have a "car " whilst my new one is sorted.
The car is my old px.
I queried would it / I be insured , as I had cancelled my policy for new car.
Dealer said yes, covered by their trader policy , and I checked with mine insurance I can drive other cars etc third party with permission etc.
Have checked ASKMID and my old px is not showing as having insurance,
Question is Am I,it covered ? if pulled by police what "evidence " do I have ?
Cheers

Not sure about the trader's insurance but your's won't be valid if the car doesn't have any insurance of it's own.0

The dealer has told you that the car is covered by their trade policy.
You have evidence that you have traded in your old car, even though you are currently using it.
If you are pulled up, then you just tell the police the facts."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

The MIB does not update instantly and the garage do not have to advise the MIB for quite some days0

Insurance is a strict liability offence - not knowing that you're not insured isn't a defence. Having said that, if the trader has unequivocally told you that you're covered by their insurance (noty just "I think so" or "Don't worry, we have insurance") then it might amount to special reasons not to endorse.poppasmurf_bewdley wrote: »If you are pulled up, then you just tell the police the facts.
Personally I wouldn't take the risk as I've never heard of traders insurance covering customers for anything other than test drives. It's possible they've added your car to fleet insurance but you'd expect them to have said this.0 -
Did the garage take your details/copy of driving license number?. If not, you are probably not insured. A traders policy only covers those named on it.
Your insurance may cover you to drive another insured vehicle, but it will exclude hired cars which essentially is what a courtesy car is classed as.
So in a nutshell, no, you are not covered.Never Knowingly Understood.

does anyone really think that a garage is going to hand over a courtesy car that isn't insured?
OP, I think you're over thinking this, would you be having the same thoughts if they had given you a different car rather than your old one?0 -
Thanks for comments.
Vaio, possibly but i suppose i see "courtesy cars " normally having the garage ad plastered over it.!
All i am worrying about is "if" i get stopped the buck well and trully stops with me ? how do I prove the car has insurance ? especially over the tomorrow when every where is closed ?0 -
Yes it does, if a car isn't insured it can't be on the road, in fact it's now against the law to have a car on the road that isn't insured. All third party insurance when driving another car has always been on the basis that the car is legal and insured.George_Michael wrote: »Not all policies state that in order to be covered on another vehicle, that vehicle must be covered in its own right.0
