Aldi - refused refund on special buy

I bought an iron in Sept 2011 from Aldi for £16.99, and it has started leaking. Took it to the store today with the receipt and expected to get a refund as it is less than 12 months old but they refused saying returns were only allowed within 60 days and I should contact the manufacturer. Their helplines aren't manned today (both Tefal, and Aldi), and I obviously need a working iron now so I have bought one from Asda.
What are my rights & are Aldi right to to this?
There are no details of any manufacturers warranty with the iron as far as I can tell - I have checked the box and the handbook & other cards in the box and there is none. The Aldi website implies that I can get the money back under part "C" of their refund policy, and Tefal is not listed on Aldi's product finder for part "B" of the policy. I'm surprised I have to post this as usually Aldi have been good to me in the past.

I'd print-off the returns policy, highlight section 'C' then go back to Aldi and shove it under the managers nose.Never Knowingly Understood.

I quoted it at the time (as best I could remember it) but they insisted it didn't apply, and I should go to the manufacturer as the product should have a warranty. I was wasting my time in store, so am going to ring the helpline(s) when they open on Wednesday.
Can I insist on a refund rather than replacement as I've now had to buy a new one?0 -
But section C only applies if there is no warranty on the item.0

In consumer return querys I always ask myself "what would Jesus do?". As irons weren't around then I just write it off and resent the fact consumer law is not referenced in the bible! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. There is no claim by Tefal that there is a warranty with the iron - I have the box and all the paperwork. There is a user guide and a list of "worldwide service centres". No warranty is in any way implied.
I have bought a new iron (different model) today and the situation is exactly the same - there is a handbook and nothing else, no warranty registration card. Nothing that I would expect if there was a warranty with it. I would normally expect a product with warranty to have a statement included along the lines of "This product is guaranteed for ??months to be free from defects etc. etc." but there is nothing.
The Aldi website has a warranty checking facility but Tefal is not listed as a manufacturer that has warranties. Will find out more on Wednesday, but calling both the helplines will cost me 35p/min which I am not happy about.0 -
Have you tried to find an alternative phone number on https://www.saynoto0870.comThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Please bare in mind that even if Aldi do refund, (which they should but can choose to repair the item as it is 7 months old) the refund can be minus an amount for the use you have had of it.
Not sure how much they can/will deduct from the 16.99 for 7 months worth of use though. If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me0 -

I'd forgotten all about that website. Thanks for the reminder.0 -

Yeah, not too bothered about the money just the principle and how I was humiliated in front of other customers and now been given the run-around. I am disappointed by Aldi which has been great on the 2 previous occasions I've had faulty goods (cheese & binoculars both within 60 days).0 -
I bought a laptop from there once - 6 weeks old it broke, it had three trips to Germany and was still bust - never buy anything with plug on from there again. Even took it to a repair shop and they said it was a write off0
