Ebay buyers - what a pain they can be

I sell a few things on Ebay and buy to.
This really gets up my nose and I seem to get it a lot. Have one today.
They've won the bid. Next thing I know panicy sounding email comes through "when can they collect"?
I email back saying "please pay by paypal then we can make arrangements".
Now, nothing. I now have to keep checking to see if they have paid, they throw me because it seems like they want to sort it out asap then don't bother with payment.
Whenever I buy anything, I hit the pay button straight away, let's face it, it's not hard.
Why do they do this? grrr......

Perhaps your buyer expects to pay cash on collection and is now a bit taken back with your response? (Just saying!).0

I now never accept paypal for collection because it's not possible to provide proof of posting. Also it means that I don't have to pay paypal for processing the payment.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I can see what you're saying but I always have payment by paypal only as I have had cases in the past where they have `bought` then never turned up to pay cash on collection.
As a buyer it doesn't cost anything to use paypal so why not!0 -
You are pretty unique in preferring Paypal to cash, so I can understand why a buyer would possibly be confused. Perhaps they have the cash ready to pay you, if you won't discuss it until they have paid by Paypal you may end up waiting longer..0

Why not? Because in this case you are selling, not buying, and it will cost you paypal fees as well as put you at risk for a possible paypal-collection scam?0 -

Why would they have cash ready when the ad states paypal only.
I don't think I am unique at all. By using Paypal as a seller you are guaranteed payment whereas cash on collection, although I have done it in the past, can cause problems. i.e. they've made arrangements with you to come to collect, then decided perhaps they don't want your item after all then you are left waiting for them to turn up, which never happens. Once they've paid by Paypal they come.0 -

Yes I know I have to pay the fees but I accept that.
What is this Paypal-collection scam you speak of, I have never come across this?0 -
If they pay by paypal they can also turn up, collect the item and then file an INR and you will have no proof they have collected the item so will lose your money and the item.S.P.C member 1662 - target £3000

In fairness it never occurred to me until I started using this board, and I have been on eBay a good few years now. I think scammy type things don't occur to most (honest) people, until you hear a few stories and it makes you more wary.
You can't prove you sent the item if they pay with Paypal then collect the item for you, because you will not have proof of postage. They can open an Item Not Received Case, and you won't have a leg to stand on. They will get their money back and have your item as well. If they are scammers, that is.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off
