Back from the weekly shop total spend £39.47 (after a £4 off voucher). Bit more than last week, but in my eagerness to get off to a good start I neglected to check what we needed in the bathroom cupboards last week.
So that means I now have £125.51 left of my original budget for the remainder of the month. Or should I be saying £74.49/£200.00 what's the correct formula for here?
OH went to stock up on his snacks, but as I've mentioned previously he takes out cash and never gets receipts but I reckon that maybe another £20 gone, but he'll never agree to participate in GC, so I'm not counting his spends.
HM pizza tonight and a bottle of red. OH is trying out a pizza stone he purchased online this week. Another frivolous purchase in my view, but we'll see if the pizza lives up to promise. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -

£2.76 - 4 x 2 packs large baguettes.
£4.20 - 1 x 5ltr squash.
£14.89 - 1 x persil washing liquid 100 wash.
£1.65 - 1 x 2.27kg chips.
£1.38 - 2 x garlic bread twin packs.
£ 4.29 - 1 x 120 pack lollys.

£3.00 - 2kgs Apples

Not too bad, although now it's all written down it doesn't look like much. But i have enough bread and milk to last the month now, just one last trip to the butchers on Monday to get mince and i can get bulk cooking again.

Children are taught to budget basically at school, but it's one of those things where you don't take notice because it doesn't apply, and it's taught in with other things, as there's not enough time to do everything in the school day. You only realise the importance of budgetting when you actually have to do it. Maybe instead of saying children should learn this at school (thereby laying blame on schools and teachers), we should lobby local councils to ask for free courses for this for 18 year olds. (Unless such a thing exists, in which case we should be making them compulsory things.)
Sorry if that sounds like I'm ranting, but it's so easy to say they should be taught x, y and z at school, but so hard to fit everything in! Plus, I think that this is something a parent should teach, as it's only ever going to be an abstract idea taught in school. I take my children shopping, and I teach them about saving and everything else I think they will need to know about money.

Hello All!
Lamb curry is cooking away - but the stewing lamb I bought from and defrosted (YS Mr W) had bones in and I didn't realize. So instead of one meal tonight and one meal for the freezer it may just be one meal tonight if there isn't much meat. I've got a bigger bag of spinach though so that can bulk it out (I was planning to put excess in the freezer because a bigger bag is better value). Just did a taste test now and it may be a bit hot, so a dash to the corner shop to get some natural yoghurt may be required! I'll see what it's like when it's cooked a bit more.
Went to Mr S today and spent £4.88 on salad items, whipped cream, hummus and Tortilla wraps.
Planning on doing Jansenns Temptation with a packet of Sprats (Swedish anchovies) bought on impulse from Ikea a while back which need using up! It's basically a anchovy based potato dauphinoise. Never had it before, so I'm praying it works out okay - will serve with salad and french dressing.
Monday I'll play it safe and do burgers with wraps, hummus and the rest of the salad after work.
Annoyingly I just realized I only have ONE onion left after tonights dinner and I need 2 onions for tomorrow. It IS a big onion though so I am going to see if I can get away with it to avoid visiting the shops again.Grocery Challenge Jan 24 0/300
