Car stereo cutting out

Hi We have a ford focus zetec 2000 and we've recently started having problems with the stereo, it will sometimes come on but then after a while it cuts out, it'll come back on for a few seconds cut out again etc. Sometimes it won't come on at all. It seems to work better when it's colder, don't know what that means or if…

Oh god I remember those! They deafen you, and if you are really unlucky, they'll stick on and you can't turn it off!

makes for one unpleasant journey when it happens!
