It's not impossible to fit the part (that is the relatively easy bit) if you are confident with opening up the case yourself.
eBay can no doubt supply you with a second user PSU, or buy a defunct iMac and recycle the PSU.

I did have a look at that to be honest, I have had the front cover off already, but then when i was faced with the plastic sticky cover and saw the instructions on you tube, I thought i cant be bothered.

I may take another look though.

If its one of the models with the 8000 series nVidia GPU there's not much that can be done.

Ok you make a statement but do not give a reason why?

If the power supply has gone whats that go to do with the video GPU?

The reason why is because there is a manufacting defect in every single 8000 series nVidia GPU (8000, 8200,6400,8600,8800) which was widely publicised with nVidia making a press release stating that they will all fail and setting aside $100m's for compensation.

When it goes, the fault looks like no power - you get just a dead machine.

Yeh the defect is an overheating issue, the card literally melts the solder under the chip and the end result is contact failure..
I suppose you could do a reflow and if successful then change the settings to make the fan run faster..
This is a lot of work though and should only be attempted by a pro.

A don't know anything about iMacs but it does seem strange that it wont power up at all if its a dead GPU..

Thanks Hopster, but this is not the issue, people are just not really reading this thread.

1 my Intel imac doesn't have this Video Card.
2 There is no power to the mac, at all
3 would a video card cause the mac to have no power what so ever. No i think is the answer.

I believe it to be the PSU which is what i suggested in my original post.

Yep a would agree its a dead PSU mate, you have done everything you can by testing the power flow from the outside.
Sorry a cant help mate, my knowledge of Macs is very limited..

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.
