Ok,
so my wife was doing some photo work on our late 2006 white imac. she ended up with the spinning wheel and unable to do anything with it at all. The only solution was to hold the power switch and do a hard reset.
some while later se decided to switch it back on and now nothing,
NO POWER to it what so ever.
I have tested the power cable and plug socket, both are fine.
Removed and reseated the RAM
I'm now suspecting it could be the internal power supply.
any ideas of cost of repair through a Apple Authorised repairer.
have looked at the item and the price varies from anything from £40 - £150.
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this before.
Thanks
Lee

Just goes to show macs NORMALLY dont break :rotfl:0 -
You could try macupgrades near Cambridge, but you'd have to courier it given your location. They've done repairs for me in the past and always very fast.
I wouldn't pay extra for an authorised Apple agent given the age of the machine. If it's going to cost £162 up I'd consider replacing it. Prices on this link if it's the Intel Core Duo:

It could also be a motherboard failure if you are really unlucky.
Will it boot from the OSX disk? If so it's not the PSU or motherboard. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Broken MACs never die, they just get upgraded!
Do as other apple user do and take it to the recycle centre, in the dead of night so the neighbours don't see you.
To be serious though I have no experience, so can't offer any advice except buy a PC to replace it. Good luck with fixing it.0 -
Have you tried googling "g5 imac won't turn on".
It appears there are problems with this generation, maybe related to the bad capacitors which infected all sorts of equipment around that time.

well they do and its getting more and more common on these boards that macs have problems, the issue of course is that you asked for a guesstimate of a price which is very hard to offer since they can vary so much as you have found with just the part ranging from 40-150Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
The Intel iMac was introduced in an 2006, so it's more likely to be a Core Duo than a G5.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks for the info,
It is basically dead, no lights no fans no beebs or anything, which to me does indicate the PSU, however I know it could be something else say the dc -dc converter or the logic board, etc.
Think the best option like you say is send it off.
cheers

It wasn't so much as a guesstimate i was after, it was more of if any other users on this site, have suffered similar symptoms,0 -

Macman indeed is correct is is an Intel and not a G50 -
It's not impossible to fit the part (that is the relatively easy bit) if you are confident with opening up the case yourself.
eBay can no doubt supply you with a second user PSU, or buy a defunct iMac and recycle the PSU.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
