Got sky+, sky talk unlimited and bb. Moving country can I cancel in contract?

I'm wondering if anyone knows, we got back to uk in fen and signed up for sky tv, phone and bb. Expecting to be here at least a year, now it looks like we will be moving back to Canada after just 6 months (so, end august) as sky cannot provide our home phone broadband or tv in Canada do I have a right to cancel whilst still in my contract (exp march 2013)
I don't want to lose it before I go as my son is autistic and literally needs the Internet! So I can't call them just yet.
Also as j will be vacating my rented property at end aug I don't want to leave a problem with getting broadband lock taken off the line.
Anyone help? Thanks.

Good news is that you can cancel your contract, however you will have to pay for the 12 months you have contracted for.

Before you cancel downgrade everything -eg basic TV channels only , phone down to basic not anytime and BB to everyday lite a month before you actually cancel (tell them you can't afford your current package) to try and keep the 6 months you'll still need to pay down to a minimum.

If you signed up on the BB Unlimited or Talk Unlimited, you won't be able to downgrade on that as that is what you're contracted to. You're best of just ringing Sky and explain your situation, see what they can do.

It is not Sky's fault you have decided to move (and, by doing so, will breach the contracts to which you agreed). They will charge you in accordance with their T&Cs.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Not trying to avoid paying for it, just don't want to leave tag on the line or anything when we go.
Assumed we will need to pay the cancellation fee or monthly fees, just wondering if we can use the move (which I accept is our fault not theirs) to downgrade the package prior to the move? Apparently not, thanks for that.

Sky will not leave active phone and BB in an empty house so you will be able to cancel that, as for the TV they will hold you in contract for the remainder of the 12 months so get the downgrade to the basic tv and you can contact them by email 31 days before end of contract to cancel

OP...Contact Sky and see wot they offer. Suggest you don't tell them where you are moving to or when you are going.

If they don't play ball and insist that you pay for the remainder of your contract, I suggest that you do the old disappearing act (i.e. Cancel your DD, cancel your bank account, don't tell the old bank of your new address, get a new bank account in Canada, don't tell neighbours of your new address, etc.).

I strongly doubt whether they will pursue you in Canada.

Another option is to wait a couple of months as Sky will then be advising of any price increases. If they do increase them and your are effected (as you would be), you will then have the right to cancel your contract without any penalty.

    HTHs.

The true answer is that you can cancel phone a nd BB with 14 days notice due to the facts outlined in your origional post you can downgrade to a min package and will need to contact sky within 31 days of the termination date of the contract to cancel full account.

The facts suggested in a previous post are not acurate and only prove a little knowledge is a dangerous thing

Call Sky and downgrade your TV pack to the minimum (£20 per month). Insist that they cancel your BB and Phone - if they won't ask to speak to the supervisor and insist. Explain that you know that you are in a contract and will be happy to pay any clawback fees, but the service must be cancelled. They will try to insist that the service should remain on, but just keep saying that is must be cancelled and they will, eventually, do it.

But not so smart if/when the OP returns to the UK within 6 years to find a trashed credit record.
