Hot water tap pressure

Ok looks like we've got low pressure on our hot tap in the bathroom :(. The bath is taking ages to fill. All other taps in the house seem fine just not this one. I'm not even sure it is turning properly, it seems really tight.

Is this something we are likely to be able to fix on our own (with no experience) or do you think we need to call a plumber? We really can do without the expense right now.

We've been in the loft to check the tank and it looks fine.

I am about to go out now so won't be able to reply to any questions straight away.

Thanks in advance.

The tap looks most like the one in this link, but a lot older.

If you can, remove it, open it up, fit new washer, give it a clean and grease and re fit... sometimes that's all it takes

If all the other taps are OK, it can't be anything to do with the tank, since the tank supplies the other hot water taps too.....

Every now and again I come across this very problem, and for some reason it affects the hot taps more. The threads inside the tap valve get gunked up and give exactly the symptoms you describe, stiff to operate with reduced flow. If you feel confident to tackle it yourself it's fairly straightforward to isolate the water, remove the tap valve mechanism, clean, grease (silicone grease) the threads and reassemble. This should solve the problem.

I hope you meant remove the headgear rather than removing the whole tap.

Ok thanks all, this has given us a good head start, trying to isolate the water now. Might follow up with posts in the DIY forum if it doesn't go well lol! (sorry didn't realise i posted in wrong forum!).

Errm - you ARE in the DIY forum. Now where did that "confused" icon go?
