Any contract is only valid if its terms are written above your signature unless it says I have read and understood the terms and conditions
Unless it was a verbal contract in which case no signature is needed.
The repair shop probably still has the phone, and if the OP wants to get it back they will either need to pay, try and negotiate with the shop owner or consider legal action.
As the OP has admitted that they were given a copy of the T&C's, they would have to prove that they were only given these after they had left the phone, and even then, there was no reason why they couldn't have read them before leaving the shop.
There may also have been a sign in the store stating that there will be a £10 for all estimates, and providing this was clear and placed where it would be easily seen, it could form part of the contract.0 -

I know we are not supposed to give newbies a hard time. But.
If 'I signed' is poor wording for 'I did not sign', then is 'phone' a poor way of wording 'washing machine'? And is 'I took a phone to be repaired' poor wording for 'A man came to repair my washing machine'?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

So you expect the bloke, running a little business, to look at your faulty appliance/gadget 'for free?'
Discliamer - obviously I can say what I want on THIS THREAD because he's only asked 'idiots' not to post on the other, almost identical, thread;)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

What wrong with somebody wanting a quote for work for free? If getting the quote requires them to look at it then so be it, they don't have to tell op the diagnosis afterwards.
However, if you go in and ask for a diagnostic to be performed them you would expect to pay for this service.
If a quote is chargeable then it should be made clear, because handing terms to op "on the way out" isn't good enough, it's AFTER ops left the phone to get a quote. So we would really need to know what signs/notices/price lists are on display inside the shop.
Personally, I think ops position is a little more complication than 'its the guys time, you should pay'.0 -
yeah BUT the OP signed something
or didn't
or he said he did
but he didn't
then he wants US to unpick it all for him and tell him he doesn't have to pay.
OP
has the bloke still GOT the phone?
Because I *think* it's going to cost you a tenner to get it back.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson
