Help! Confused....need TV/unlimited broadband & phone...CONFUSED please help!

Hello!

I'm moving in about 5 weeks. The area does not have Virgin. As far as I know there is a SKY dish already installed (not sure if a landline or bt landline in there!). I need the internet for work (as long as 5+ mps speed it's fine)-I do download about 4gb a month. Would take landline but seldom use it-mainly my G/F uses a '5p a call' override provider to call France twice a week. It would need to be HD & only for one room (we'd buy an av sender for other room(s) ). I have an old base unit so wireless is not essential (although I may buy a laptop in the future)

I mainly watch the standard channels & the HD channels-bbc3/4, itv2, e4, e4+1, -no interest in movies/sports. I'm SO confused???!

Can anyone advise me? I've PM'D one of the kind posters on here for the 1 year 1/2 price SKY. Can anyone think of any other options? Maybe free to air channels only + an HD PVR box & a different provider for web/landline??

Without a BT-based landline you're going nowhere with ADSL-based broadband, so that is the first thing to establish. A landline provision costs anything from zero to £130.
Then do an exchange search on www.samknows.com to see what LLU options you have, if any.
There is little point in paying for a Sky sub if you don't want movies or sport, just use Freeview, or Freesat/Freesat From Sky via the existing dish. All these are free bar the one-off cost of any digibox or PVR.

Hi macman! Wow-how quick are you???! With one of the SKY offers i found it was just £10 to install a landline. I'm going to text the landlady & see if there is a landline in there.

Don't consider Sky unless you are on a Sky LLU exchange, the Sky Connect service(non-LLU) is dire.
Which is way I sugested that you research the samknows data before doing anything else.

It would be the Sky LLU....but as your OH uses the override provider to call France then that would no longer work on Sky.

Personally, I would split the TV and the phone/internet out and not tie them together. Sky you can get for as little as £20 and the landline/unlimited internet combination for as little as £18.75 a month (Tesco Broadband). You can use the override provider's 0800 number. I'm assuming it's 18185 and the call will cost an extra 1 penny per minute.

The Sky service for £20 a month (without discounts) includes the free-to-air channels in HD. After 1 year you can then cancel Sky and continue to receive the free-to-air channels.....or you could go down the PVR route if you wish to have time shifting of programmes available to you.

Happymj-it's a '09' number-loads £1-50 call cost. Then an 0808 free number is called & it's 5 p per call for up to 1 hour. Assume the SKY line would allow the 0808 free number?

Local Loop Unbundled. All the available LLU operators are listed under 'LLU Operator Presence'.
The obvious choices on that exchange are 02 or Sky.

But am waiting for a 1 year 1/2 price code from one of the kind posters on here....assuming the £60 'ongoing' cost is AFTER the 6 monthis is up...will be interesting to compare once I've got the '1 year' 1/2 price code. Also-correct me if I'm wrong-you can keep the sky+hd boxes once the year has run out?

The box and other equipment is your property from day one of the contract. It is not leased, unlike VM.

Hi, I noted your comments about SamKnows on another thread and followed the link. The site doesn't appear to be working at the moment, and I've tried my last three postcodes and last two phone numbers and none work on it - just keeps saying enter a valid phone number/postcode.

Are you aware of any problems with SKs?

The postcode/numbers are valid btw, I've used them on other sites.
