unfortunately for a lot of kids with working parents, they can't be taken out of school for holidays because their parents can't afford them in the first place
Not the op though because she's disabled which is what we are discussing...I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0 -

Does every illness in the medical dictionary make you 'disabled'?
Seems very fashionable these days to describe oneself as disabled and is actually diminishing the impact of the word.0 -
I live in a holiday resort and can say:
Locally lots of children are taken out of school for holidays as their parents can't take holiday at peak time if they work in holiday industry.
Easter and half term are probably as busy as August.
If the local school can take kids on trips to skiing resorts, Disneyland and sports tours then I can't see the problem.
I would never do it in an examination year or last week of the year in year 6 as I think they would miss too much.
We home schooled ours and I can say that after missing four years at school they had no problems. In case anyone thinks we were hot housing them they probably did between 30 and 60 minutes a week on maths and literacy and one of mine still got assessed as top of her year when she started school.
I hope everyone enjoys their holidays, at home or away, in school time or holiay time.Sell £1500

We are hoping that is might make the drive a little easier with there being less traffic and that the places we visit will be a little quieter. Has anyone else done this? Did it make much difference?
Due to different parts of the country having different school holiday dates, you cannot gaurantee that it will be quieter a week before your child's school breaks for the holidays.
Throughout the year, at different time periods, I have taken my children away and, although it is still term time for many, I have never really found much quieter periods in the summer months. From June, onwards, things tend to get very busy.

Couldn't you just call in to the school that the child's sick?
Wouldn't that be putting the children in a position where they might have to tell lies? There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
So a Holiday is more important than your child's education?
Depending on the age of the children, there may be little education taking place in the last week of school.
High schools don't tend to wind down on the last week, whereas, in primaries, there are parties, watching DVDs, etc, so not necessarily much work with regards teaching to the curriculum.
There could well be a day of transition to the new class teacher, getting to know them, etc, so that would need to be weighed up too.
It does depend on the age of the child/ren, here. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

I would also add here, that a child's education doesn't just take place in the classroomThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

This is true.
Whilst learning doesn't just take place in the classroom, a child can learn the same from a holiday experience if they go during term time or during official school holidaysThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story.
