Can't get money from Nationwide

Last I heard, it was impossible to withdraw cash from any bank by phone, with or without fingerprints, retinal scans or DNA tests.bigfreddiel wrote: »anyway you should be happy it was difficult to get your dosh -think what might happen if a scammer called the bank and dipped in to your account -i don't think you would be happy would you"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. anyway you should be happy it was difficult to get your dosh -think what might happen if a scammer called the bank and dipped in to your account -i don't think you would be happy would you - and the hassle to prove it wasn't you doesn't bear thinking.

I was only tring to order it so I could collect it on Thursday.0 -

But the point is that with Nationwide you can't do this. You have to give them 48 hours notice of the amount you want to withdraw, and as the OP has said, the initial contact is only to order the money, so I don't see where the security risk is, even if one of the security questions wasn't answered to their satisfaction."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0 -
Ah! But isn't the catch that the operator cannot access the guts of your account at all if you haven't answered the security questions satisfactorily?0

I gave her the account number she had my account on the screen, she asked me how much was in it and I told her the exact amount to the penny. She could even see our investments.
She didn't need anymore info to see I had enough money available to withdraw the amount I was requesting them to have available for me on Thursday.
When I have gone to the branch before to request the money all they have done is ask my name and how much I want which they write in a book for withdrawal requests.0 -
When Santander took over my Abbey account, i could never get any money out when i rang, they once even asked me when i took out the account, which was donkeys years ago so i didnt have the answer, i cancelled it because it was too frustrating to get my own money, i wouldnt care, it was just to transfer to my nominated bank account, details of which they had anyway.0

Um - i know it doesn't help you now but could you not have paid for the car by Faster Payment either by phone or by internet? This is what i did for a recent purchase for about £4k.
Mind you if you'd failed security as you did it would not have helped to try to do the transfer by phone!
The best advice was probably to call again as i would guess you're allowed to fail at least twice before they lock you out completely.0 -

Yes, that was a good idea, unfortunatly I couldn't get home to find out the info they wanted.
I'm afraid I don't know what 'faster payment' is so I probably don't have it.
I have arranged to get the money elsewhere but am very tempted to move my disposable cash from Nationwide, I will have to look at interest rates, but I want a high street BS that I can get to.0 -
Every UK current account has Faster Payments by now. Many savings account have already been added, too.
Essentially it means that any payments arrive in the payee's bank account no later than end of next working day, but the vast majority of payments will be made a lot faster, from almost instantly to approx 2 hours, even on weekends and bank holidays.
There's tons of information on the Faster Payments website.0 -
Went into a different branch today and enquired what I have to do to order 8k. The guy at the desk said 'just tell me when you want to collect it, and bring 2 forms of ID, one a photo'
You got to love em eh!!!0
