Friday 30th Mar 2011 – was the 40th Anniversary of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970. The services provided by The Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 actually began its legislative life as section 29 of the National Assistance Act 1948.
The Disabled Persons Act 1986 restates and strengthened the provision surrounding the meeting of various needs of disabled people in respect of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970.
The Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970, places a duty upon local authorities to investigate the level of need for services for people with disability who live in their area, it does not however place a duty to keep a register of those people.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I agree, you can't just nip down to the town hall and register as disabled these days. The only proof I've ever been asked for is a copy of the DLA letter.

Most area's it seems have a childrens with disabilities register but most areas to do not have the same no for adults unless its visual impairment to deaf. If anyone asks if I'm on disability register I just show a copy of DLA letter which suffices for discounts etc.
As people have said before the regesters are kept by local authorities.0
