"Registered" disabled?

What does this mean?

Is there an actual "register" of people who are disabled? If so, who holds/maintains the register, and how does someone get listed on it?

I take it to mean that someone is getting a disability allowance of some sort or another.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Strictly speaking there is no such thing anymore, it was abolished along with the employment quotas. Some social service depts still have them, but it does not entitle you to anything per se.

I am registered disabled and seperately as deaf, council's/LA's no longer have to keep disability registers but they have to have both deaf and blind registers by law.

I have the card to say Im registered as disabled under the 1948 chronically sick and disabled act or something like that and its handy fo concessions, over 20 years ago this was the only recognition you could get as disabeld but DLA (came into bring in 1992), then DDA/DED supperseeded this legisalation.

If anyone wants to enqiure about the disability registers in their area the local council/LA should be their first port of call.

    Thank you.

There was no reason for me asking, other than seeing someone say on a thread on here that they were "registered disabled" and I just wondered about it.

My council does not keep a register of this type and to be honest, I fail to understand why one would be kept.

Im not sure but know I'm on a register and have a number somewhere.
