Oh, I hope my post didn't sound like I was knocking what you're doing rich - I was talking about people on those 'moving abroad' programmes who think it's going to be like one long holiday. You're going into it with your eyes wide open, and I think it will be an exciting new life for you."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

I think anyone thinking of moving overseas should give it a try (as long as they plan properly like itsarichmansworld is doing) - life's too short for regrets.I flew off to join a friend in northern Italy for a year within a week of finishing my O-levels at 15. I was supposed to be there a month, but ended up staying a year. My parents allowed me to stay on condition that I came back to do my A-levels, so I came back here & did them, then went back again the weekend after my last exam, & stopped away another year.
I did loads of travelling until my mid-twenties, spending months at a time in different countries. My mum would be having kittens every time I hinted at going away, but the only things she insisted on were that I kept in regular contact, & that I didn't go anywhere unless I had enough money for a flight back home if I wasn't happy. I'd say that applies to anyone going to live overseas, whatever the circumstances & whatever your age - keep in regular contact with those you've left behind, & make sure you can get back 'home' if you need to. The only thing stopping me going off to live in Sydney, Greece or Italy (all countries I've spent months/years in) is lack of money to get there & set myself up, but who knows what might happen in the next few years? I'm certainly not afraid of uprooting myself to live somewhere else.
Good luck to itsarichmansworld - I haven't felt the travel bug in years, but now you've made me itch to travel again.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Thanks wdiag
I've put masses of thought into this and not doing anything light hearted.
I will be leaving my hubby for about 6 mons so I know to sustain our marriage we would need to be in constant contact...
The internet is great for this emails texts calls webcams
I have had the travel bug since I was wee my dad was in the navy so I blame him for my "itch" He had wonderful stories of bombay nyc and so on..
But he always told me that these places have problems too and not to forget I am scottish and Scotland will always be home....
I think I am going to see the world and being really sensible about it I am getting paid to see the world!
(hopefully) 13 days to find out :eek:Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?0 -
People would pay for me to go away - it's just the 'return ticket' part they'd have trouble with.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
