Can you be sacked for not doing overtime?

    He asked, and why did he ask? In N.I employers get a subsidy of £75 per week for 6 months for taking someone of JSA and into work.

    I don't see why it would amaze anyone, and I doubt that leaving for such a reason would impress a prospective employer either. JSA is there when you have no other option, not for those who are a bit precious about working long hours.

    (No offence intended, couldn't think of a more suited word!)

    I have no problem the odd hour here or there, not 3 hours per night 2-3 nights per week.

    Are you hours you are working legal? That is what the JCP will look at.

    Not wanting to do overtime without the traditional enhancement of time and third, or time and half I really agree with the OP here what incentive is there to do it. I doubt it would be gross misconduct refusing to be the works cat, but if a reasonable amount is in your contract then maybe do a few hours in the week.

    Are you hours you are working legal? That is what the JCP will look at.

    Mine are legal as I don't do it for them. But if I did do it they would not be legal, and if I was sacked for said reason I'm sure this wouldn't be legal either, but then they would just use a different reason to sack you, lack of work or whatever.

    Many employers pay OT at basic rate now. The incentive is surely that after months of being unhappy at being out of work, he has an income.

    I think really if it did happen it would just have to go to a decision maker and let them decide, probably just depend what mood there in.
