Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

    Hi all

    Happy Sunday!

I've had a small spend today from my grocery budget, but nothing from spends...yet! Although, unless we go for coffee later, I don't think I will have any which would be nice!

Hope everyone is having a lovely day, despite the weather! Mum and dad are coming over in about an hour to help me paint my room, so that's my afternoon sorted!

I forgot to say, I got some free flip flops yesterday! I'm on O2 and decided to sign up for Priority Moments, so I downloaded the app and registered, and one of the first things that came up was a free pair of union jack flip flops at BHS! As I was at the mall anyway yesterday, I thoguht, why not! They were worth a fiver! They are perfect for work on tuesday, as they wouldn't let us have it as a bank hol, our director has said lets make it a fun day, so we have to dress in red, white and blue, and we're having a make a crown competition, and I'm doing a quiz. should be fun! So they are perfect :D

Ended last week on £19.33/£20.00 - treated myself to a pot of tea yesterday before work.

Going out for a big meal tomorrow, so my budget for this week will £40.00

    Hi all

What a miserable weather day! Got 3 walls of my room painted today - feels much nicer, although the stench of paint is beginning to annoy...

anywho... no spends today as far as this challenge goes, yay! :D

Tomorrow we're going to the Downs in Bristol to a big event that's on for the Jubilee...should be good, it's free but I'll anticipate small spends here and there... will try and be good though... don't have a lot of money to last me this month, and have a lot on!

Sunday 3 Jun: NSD for challenge (spends on Grocery budget)

    Total so far: £0/£20

    Morning all

    NSD for me yesterday.

Should also be a NSD today, we are out for lunch but it will come from our joint account.

Have a good day all, it's actually dry here at the moment.

£100 for me this week. much more than usual but on hols and taking my OH out for birthday meal.

Would be interested to know how you record your (daily) spends and how you include these in your monthly budget overall?

For example, should the birthday meal I'm paying for come out of eating out (and be recorded on my spreadsheet accordingly?) or should I simply include it in the weekly spend for this week? I want to manage my money so that as far as possible, what it says in my spreadsheet, matches what it says in my bank account but I'm struggling on how best to do this without overcomplicating matters.

I would record it as 'eating out' and leave the weekly spend budget for all the little things like newspaper, drinks, snacks, etc.
