Hello all,
I would very much appreciate your thoughts and advice. I posted a photographic enlarger to my ebay buyer via royal mail parcel force signed for (even though postage was just standard in my original post, I felt this would offer more protection).
The equipment arrived with a damaged base. I put in a claim and parcelforce have just written to me saying my item was not in a box and so no compensation would be offered.
I did ask at the post office if it looked ok and the guy said yes and gave me the receipt and tracking documents after I had paid and put it through. Parcelforce refer to this document where it states large equipment must be in a box...it doesn't seem right that this is provided after it has been essentially posted and is just on a receipt.
I believe they have a case to answer....what are my rights please

You can always appeal, but the usual rule of thumb is that items are required to be boxed to a certain degree and have a certain depth of packaging as well.
Bubble wrap is not sufficient to protect against damage. A lot of my smaller items go in two boxes with protection in both as I always assume items will be dropped from chest height onto a concrete floor, and pack accordingly.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Parcel force packing requirements:
http://www.parcelforce.com/help-information/sending-advice/packaging-guidelines
All items should be placed within an inner box and wrapped in bubble wrap. Multiple items within a parcel should not touch to prevent movement in transit. Contents should be placed in a rigid cardboard box and sealed to prevent opening during transit.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. To be honest I would have gone to more effort to protect something as delicate as a photographic enlarger.
When I sold my own darkroom equipment (having gone digital), I packed everything in multiple layers of bubblewrap and then multiple layers of cardboard (I get my cardboard from my local Iceland).
I've have had the odd dispute with Parcelforce, but given the situation as described here, I think they're right to have taken the line they did."The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.
